Got home last night around Midnight after 10 days on the road attending the Des Moines GG show, participating in the organized cruise and then Columbus. Thou Des Moines has a wonderful location, Columbus GG show kicked ***. May have been the best large show I have attended in a long long time.

The wagon ran great thou I lost a hubcap about 150 miles from home (trip was 3400 miles). one lane was higher then the other and it caught me off guard and when I changed lanes the car lurched and I jerked the wheel, when I did I jumped back into the lower lane and I heard the dreaded noise.. front hubcap hitting the inner fender and bouncing off.. Minor casuality but it did piss me off since the road had no signed annoucing it (it was dark so I did not see it)..

Well so many cool HAMBers and got a chance to have some of Denises cookies (almost had a fight over them)... Highlight was getting a chance to drive the 999 special around the fairground.. thanks to SoWhats generousity for letting me have the thrill.... Seen Voo Doo Child, what a nice car with an incredible paint job (see pic below).

Well here is the link to both the cruise pics (took over 1300 over the ten days)
Cruise to Columbus show (take a look at the speedway collection of rare engines)
    and Columbus pics Columbus pics.

We just got home an hour ago. A GREAT show! It was wonderful to meet so many HAMBers in person. Here's a shot from the Friday noon meet and greet.

I'm so glad you liked them. The next time we cross paths there will be more. I have already come to the conclusion that I should plan on bringing twice as many as I think I might need. [IMG]

Here's a photo of Saturdays meet and greet in the Garage Grown area, which by the way, was packed with some of the coolest rides at the show. I'd also like to add, from my own personal observation, is that this area was the most popular for the spectators. I took alittle walk and checked out the "other" speciality areas and the most crowded with people checking out the rides was the Garage Grown area. It was also the area where the people were having the most fun. The owners of the cars were actually standing around chatting and mingling with the folks that came to check out their rides, not sitting behind their cars ignoring the spectators.

I do believe the GG organization realizes that the traditional "hot rod" movement needs to be catered to now along with the high dollar rides. This is evident in how many were choosen for "picks" at this event.

Those pictures are great. Thanks for posting.

What in the hell does somebody have to be smoking to "see" this one? Is that a late model ****** ZX2 (or whatever they are called)? I don't think I'd build it, but it is pretty cool lookin'

Denise, great group shots... As for your thoughts on the Garage Grown area, I have to totally agree with you.. Thou Des Moines was disappointing (due to lack of knowledge of location we were put) the HAMB reps did support. Columbus on the other hand rocked. Not enough space for the turn out. I wished I could have stayed longer. Next year I am only doing Columbus and plan to stay all three days.

GG organization also needs to provide more space for the Pro Picks area. These are supposed to be the nicest cars at the event and they are crammed into a very small area. I say more then one car have someone slide up against it because it was the only way to thru the crowd. With all the room, there was no excuse... POOR planning on their part (I am a big supporter or GG events and usually only talk positively about them, but the small area for so many "PICKED" cars was stupid.

Flipper, that was a NASH that had a roof transplant.. maybe from a toyota or something.. it was cool

Levis, have not made any progress. thou I did pick up a set of 36 headlights for it this weekend.

Was it a roof transplant...or and everything but the roof transplant? The verticle weld on the quarters makes me wonder. It kinda looks like what people do with t-birds and 50 ford sheet metal.

Roof transplant...... we were parked not far from it on Friday and the guys really checked it out and were impressed with the amount of work that went into it. I would have just left the cut off roof OFF myself [IMG]

The 32 that was built at Rad Rides by Troy, by a very talented 22 year old name Levis, took the "Street Rod of the Year" award. Levis was a pleasure to chat with. Very outgoing, yet very humble. This young man is one to keep an eye on, he's going places in the hot rod world.

    Just got home. Whew..I'm beat.
I met alot of HAMBers and it was great.
It was nice meeting or seeing again-HRLC and Roadstar, Fab32, sedandad, ****oo, sowhat, hammer hank, brwstr(sp?), johnny longhair, boones, and..and.. I'm sorry I'm tired and drawing a blank. It was great meeting all of you.
Also, it was especially nice meeting aussiesteve and vaphead(steve&eric), you two are cool. Thanks for the hookup on the shirts, my kids love their new Streamline fashions!
I also agree that the Garage Grown area was the best. i only hung-out there sat. during the meet/greet because we had camp set-up elsewhere(under shade)but it was the coolest overall area. It does need to be 2 1/2 times the real-estate next year so we can all hang out w/o being so jammed up.
oh yeah, Kirk(Billetproof-dude)It was nice meeting/chatting with you. It seems you have your finger on the pulse of GG's. It'll only get better with guys like you and JimA hanging around there.
ok, I'm rambling..It was a great weekend. hope it's even better next year.

I've been up to my eyeballs in cookie dough this week, 19 pounds to be exact. Sure wish I would have had extra to give to Boones to take west with him....... although the cookies probley wouldn't have even made it back to SC let alone west with him. [IMG]

Speaking of AussieSteve and Vaphead, Roadstar and I paid them a visit after the Saturday meet and greet to make sure they got their share of cookies. They were a blast to chat and hang out with.

i'll second that it was cool to meet vaphead, nice guy. and if you are reading this, you'll probably hear from a friend of mine about a 235 intake! didn't know aussiesteve was aussiesteve or i'd have said hello. i guess it pays to be prompt as far as the HAMB meets go. next year i will be EARLY and my ol 283 will have given up its smoking habit so i can take the interstate! great to meet denise too, as well as roadstar.

Didn't know it but spent some time chating with Aussiesteve at his sales location. Maybe HAMBr's should have an ID tatooed on their forehead. Anyway, good talking to you and if we meet again I'll be sure to introduce myself.
