Customs Another old custom found.......

Discussion in 'The Hokey Ass Message Board' started by safariknut, Aug 1, 2008.

  1. My cousin **** called me tonight with some interesting news.Briefly:a guy who rents space at his shop and recycles(junks)a lot of cars dragged one to the shop yesterday. My cousin saw it coming in and immediately recognized it as an old local custom(see 1963 pic enclosed).
After marveling over it for awhile(even though he has been out of cars since 1979)he managed to get hold of the original builder(his brother still lives in town).**** also has contacted a few other car guys in the area to come have a look at it.
The car has been sitting outside for about 10 years and where it was before that is unknown. They are going to do a full examination of it on Monday to see if it is worth restoring.I am sure there will be someone there who will take on the task.
I remember seeing this car cruising by me when I was a junior in high school and it was sweet then. The guy who built it purchased it new in 1957 and started customizing it almost immediately.**** has promised to send along some pictures next week and when I receive them they will be posted.
    Stay tuned for further info............

you bet it is worth restoring, bringing back to life a piece of history. Don't let this one get away!

I've been going through my old photos/slides looking for this car, as I thought I had a color pic of it... Was it black or dark blue... with gold wheels? Maybe I saw the pic you posted (or another here on the HAMB) and am dreaming, but those taillights look familiar. I have a lot of the Tedeschi's show(s) in a box labeled S. Braintree '63. I'm glad it was found and possibly (Hopefully) on it's way back for us to enjoy.

  10. It was a dark metallic green and originally had 57 Plymouth hub caps on it.The pic shown had it with open wheel spiders and the wheels were painted the same color as the car.
Somewhere in my library I have a couple of pictures of the car in one of the small books(Car Speed & Style I think)in the shows section. My cousin has spoken with the builder and he's coming down to ****'s shop on Monday to see the car.He doesn't believe it was in a magazine but I know I've seen it somewhere.
As I understand it,the car has been sitting outside for about 10 years unprotected. The original upholstery is still in there but not in very good shape. The car had a diamond shaped rear window and I'm not sure that is still there. It has a 390 motor that they managed to get to turn over and they are going to attempt to fire it.**** was a Ford technician for many years before opening his own shop and if anyone can get it fired up,he will.
The biggest concerns seem to be whether the frame is still intact although if someone was serious about restoring it,that should be a minor issue.
It is my understanding that most of the body work is still in reasonably good shape but it is painted a really horrible chartreuse color and has wire wheels which are in really bad shape.
I can't wait to get some pictures of it.

I have a lot of pictures of the Tedeschi shows that I have previously posted. The first one I went to there was in 1961.The Fly Wheels used to put on a hell of a show there.
