I have a 250 inline, and want to take the 350 off the back and put on a t-5 ******. anybody know what flywheel and pressure plate, clutch to use? Any help is appreciated. thanks. dave.
any cast iron bell housing will work (big block, small block and inline 6's have the same bell housing bolt pattern) (exceptions are early inline 6's different bellhousing and some bell housings do not have the top bolt hole), just get the disk that matched the splines on the input shaft on the trans. and may have to trim the bearing retainer sleeve.
Click the link in my sig - it's a post full of other T5 links - in there is one specifically about adapting the straight 6
Tman that link was dead for me. if the t5 is from a cammaro it will bolt up to the 250. Im doing the same thing. We should be looking for a 153 tooth flywheel. If your not sure pull the flexplate of that you have and count away. I just bought a flywheel at a show and it was an impulse happened to be the wrong size. If your going to a swap meet bring the flex plate its light enough anyways i beleive you want to find a 10.5" clutch and the matching pressureplate
first, i'd like to say thanks to you guys for the help. and to tman. I appreciate the link to a blank screen. it's almost as helpful as the rude comment. If my post was too much for you to handle, just don't reply. I thought I was being polite and asking for help. I hope you get the same warm reception when you ask for help. dave.
Hey man did you get what you needed?? I like to start my thread with the saying "i have searched but no go " then i ask my question. Try searching through the threads though before you post iswhat Tman is saying. **** can be quite repitous around here. ..... well can understand. some of those T-5 links were a pain to sift through till i got my answer
You have several options, but first... What size clutch do you want to use? What size flywheel do you want to use? Do you have a bellhousing allready, and what is it?
well, I was told that I could use a pre 93 s10 bellhousing off of a 4.3. and maybe I can use the flywheel and pressure plate from a stock 250 inline with the stock s10 clutch. I mean, Summit Racing is 5 mins down the street, but my wallet likes AutoZone's prices a little more. My friend used the hydraulic clutch from the s10 on his dodge flat six, but he never did a chevy six conversion. I'm putting it in a 50 international that will pull a small vintage camper, so it'll never see the dragstrip. hope this info helps. thanks, d.d.t.
http://www.jalopyjournal.com/forum/search.php?searchid=4273670 Weird, link worked fine the first time around. Works for me now.
TMan is good people. I think we need some more meet and greets. LOL!!!!!!! The searches are hard to go through. Cause one person will put T-5 and another will put T5, T 5, 5 speed, 5-speed and so on. We all need to learn to be a little nicer. And TMan here is what I got when I tried to pull up that link: "Sorry - no matches. Please try some different terms."
You can't really use the CAMARO OR FIREBIRD bellhousing. It's at a 17 degree offset. use a bell from a 4.3 v6 or a fullsize truck with a t5
That's one reason why the ones with good content are in one spot - the tech archives found at the red link in my sig. Sure you can use it - makes some things more challenging than others, but might make packaging easier in certain instances...
Nice words and I dont even like you! serious, that first search was T5, second was the same, must have been a cut and paste issue? I like the new search even better and the old one worked for me fine!
Any flywheel from a '63-up inline six or any '84-earlier V8 with a 2 piece rear mainseal can be used. Either 153 or 168 tooth. 153 are usually 10 1/2" clutch, and the 168 are usually 11". Bellhousings and starters are sized to the flywheel, so the bell & flywheel need to be thought of together. Make sure the bellhousing you use has a 4 11/16" center hole. Most full size trucks were 5 1/8" after 1968?? I believe Advanced Adapters offers a collar for about $55 to shrink one of these down to 4 11/16" should you need to... The pre-'93 4.3 S10 bell should work, should you want a hydraulic setup. I believe that would mean using a 153 tooth flywheel & 10 1/2" clutch. The S10 T5 has 14 splines, so you will need to get a disc made, as there aren't any factory 10 1/2" 14 spline ones, as far as I can tell. Or have the flywheel redrilled for whatever disc/pressure plate you want, provided it fits inside the bellhousing. The S10 T5 will need the input shaft and collar shortened, and run a 1/2" drill through the mounting holes. If you want a cable driven speedo, look for an '83-89 vintage S10, but note that they weren't all mechanical in those years, so verify before purchase. The S10 has the more preferable shifter location. The others have it too far back for alot of vintage applications. Some have used the Camaro versions with bucket seats, though. Make some measurements and see what works for you. Camaro versions can be switched from electric to cable speedo, but the S10 versions are only one or the other. V8 Camaro has 26 splines. The tilted Camaro bellhousings can be used in other applications if you use the shifter and rear mount as well. It's not prefered, but it is doable.
So if you use the s10 bellhousing but use the bigger camaro clutch. He wanted to use the camaro trans anyway. He just wanted to know if the camaro bellhousing would work, which it will but it's at a 17 degree offset. Plus with an f body trans there are more options for clutches.
Chris, No mention of what ****** he is using that i can see. Or that he's bought anything for it yet. Lighten up... I just remembered that the T5 was never used behind the 4.3 in an S10, just the Astro Van. Good luck finding one. They used the NV3500 behind the 4.3 S10, and that has an integral bellhousing and electric speedo. Easiest bell to get for the small flywheel is the "403". There on Ebay all the time. I just saw about 10 of them at the Elkhorn swapmeet today. Diamond Dave, Until you nail down some of the periferal issues, and get some leads on parts, we really can't narrow down the options much further...
