  3. yup i agree. good luck getting in and out of that thing if you do. you can always ride with your head sticking out of the top if you dont and an insert. 4 to 5.5" is the max i would chop a car but thats just me

Business card chop is just about right on most cars, 3 1/2 inches.

A's look good with a 3 1/2 to 4 inch chop. Are you planning on channeling it or leaving it on top of the rails?

thats more than 6 but I wont say for sure. I would guess 8 inches. Thats too low for my taste, i like it around 6 cut out. gives more of a proper window outline. but if we all liked the same thing, well we would be boring as hell.

It's gonna be a Hi boy 18x3 spindle mount on the front , 471 blower w/stick shift. most likely a 4'' chop .

Dude- You would like to chop it 8'' then others voice their thoughts on it and you say most likely a 4'' chop. WTF over!! If I was going bonneville style I'd go atleast 8'' maybe more, but a street driven Hotrod with spindle mounts its already unsafe so chop it what you want.

Go 4" max. it is very hard to stretch them once cut.

To answer your question without going to deep into opinion....I have driven the (I believe 8" chopped) "Green Grenade" coupe built by loudpedal here on the Hamb, and I found it to be really hard to see out of. That and I hit my head on the wood top bows more than once over moderate bumps. If I slouched way down in the seat, I could see out of the windshield but it was not very comfortable for me.

If you go 8", seating and steering column/wheel placement become extremely critical.

An 8" chop would look *****in', but to be honest it's going to be pretty impractical. You may want to sit in the car to where you are comfortable, and have someone measure the distance between the top of your head and the bottom of the roof. Take that measurement and leave yourself at least an extra inch of headroom. I don't know how tall you are, but I'm willing to bet that you'll end up with about a 5" or 6" maximum chop if you measure that way.

  13. Agreed. I also say too much unless it is a full-on racecar......

I hope you are not 6ft tall or you wont fit in it with 8" chop JUST my 2 cents tho

  15. If I chopped my 1929 Whippet 8" that would leave 1" of frontal
    viewing!!!!
Mine came with a factory 9" front window so I went with a 3" chop.
Most states have a law for street driven front windows. Most say a dollar bill is max. So about 6" of viewing space. Thats if you dont want to get h***led.

thanks for your opinions . I like the look of the 8'' chop but I think I should stick with a 4'' chop because I plan on driving it a lot.

    My 2 cents:

I put over 30,000 miles on the Green Grenade and I never asked anyone what they thought. I know what I like. I built it for me and no one else...

...guess what I think you should do.

I like low chops and stances, but its got to be proportionate. Thats too much..... unless you section the body like 12 inches. lol

    Dont do that either.

I've got a 3 1/2" chop on my '31. I'm about 5'8" and I am using '85 Fiero seats bolted to the floor. I do not have excessive head room, and, with the visor over windshield, need one of those prism dudes to see traffic lights if I am up close.

IMO, anything over 4" doesn't look right unless you also alter the body and, even if you do, it will be pretty damn uncomfortable if you drive it any distance. But that's just my experience and opinion-build it the way you want.

As The Rabid Whippit said: Most states have a law for street driven front windows. Most say a dollar bill is max. So about 6" of viewing space. Thats if you dont want to get h***led.

Most all states have pretty stringent windshield height and area regulations. I just snooped through the WA state rcw's and didn't find it with a quick search but I know that there is a minimum vertical height limit on windshields in this state.

Also if your tunnel ram puts the carbs and air cleaners up where they block your vision you will end up getting pulled over and probably receive a ticket in most states.

My 48 is chopped 4 inches and there are times that even that is a pain in the **** especially in town at stop lights.
The pro-fairground look isn't very practical if you plan to drive the car any serous distances. If you trailer it to rod trots and then rump rump through the event a couple of times a day like a couple of car owners that I am sure Kirk can name easily it might be ok. A bit of a joke with a lot of the guys but ok to do.

I did not see if your plans include channeling. A 4 - 5" chop will not bug you with no channel, also depends on how tall you are. I had a 5" chop with a 4" channel, seats flat on the floor. I'm 5'10". My head was hitting the top. The black car appears to be chopped 8".
