Im picking up a Y block engine this week , can you tell me if a T 5 ford mustang trans will go behind this engine or do I need a adapter kit or what type of trans will go behind it , standard or auto ? I have know idea what size it is but it is for free ! I want to put it into my 30 A coupe .
Which Y block? There are at least 3 different Y's that FURD makes. If it is the 272/292/312 version, then I believe the T5 should bolt up using stock Furd bell housing.
Yes I believe it is a 272/292/312 engine . I havent seen it or checked the numbers , but the guy wants to give it away I will take it for free . Is there any quick things to identify which motor it is ?
The 272/292/312 Ford Y's are narrower than the 317/341/368 Lincoln Y blocks. The third Y is the FE series and that is the 352/390 engines, which have the distributors in the front of the engine. About all I could do is to measure my 272 and 317 Y's and let you know what I find. I have no casting #s handy.
They were made in 239, 272, 292, and 312. Get the numbers off the block to ID which one it is.... Mummerts site has good tech on block numbers - http://ford-y-block.com/Block%20identification.htm Also, get the numbers off the heads. The 6090 number is just a Ford number for a head, get the complete number, and check that on Mummerts site also - http://ford-y-block.com/cylinderheadchart.htm Upgrading the heads are one of the best ways to get more power out of it. You'll need an adaptor for a different transmission. Do a search on it, there are many many threads about changing ******s on a Y-block. Also, there's a recent thread on Y-block modifications that's very informative.
Yep ,but as I recall it was a 255. Always thought it was interesting that the first year overheads had the same CID as the last of the flatties , but with different bores/strokes.
i have a 1957 lincoln landau premiere with a 368ci engine. is that not also a y-block? if not, would someone clue me in. it's hard to find parts for it. kanters has your basic rebuild kit for it and that is all. it makes a ton of power though. well, if it was running. thanks.
Here's the link to the parts that Egge carries... http://www.parts123.com/parts123/yb.dll?parta~partsort
