Glad to hear things are going well for you. Take it easy till everything gets back to normal. You sound like the type of person that has to be doing something all the time and the recovery can be the most difficult part of the surgery, especially for people like us.

    Excellent news!
Follow the advice about gradually getting back up to the level you were at as far as activity.
Take some time to look around and enjoy things and if you are one of those crazy 'gotta be doin somethin all the time' people (like me) use the time to plan.

Good on ya Cory. Been thinking of you. Rest up and follow all of the Docs orders.

Car will be there and now it sounds like you will be here to build it, finish it, and drive it.

First objective crossed off the build list.

Happy as hell for you and I will honor you with my first ****tail tonight! Hope you like Crown Royal. (hell with you if you don't I am drinking it anyway LOL).

You know where to find me if you need anything!

Hey Corry sorry to hear the news. My father got one when he was 40, and he lived til he was 73. Alot of that time he worked on our cars. It never slowed him down. It's kinda like gl***es you have an ajustment period then you compensate to your new bad ol' self and do what you love. Look at it this way if you're horizontal no more workin' on anything! give yourself the time it will take to adjust. There are people willing to walk you through it too. He belonged to an organization who would visit folks in the hospital after that operation and help then to accept their new selve's. So it may be scarry but it's not the end! Take Care!

    customcory,
We're praying for you, man. Like it was said in another post, you just need to change the way you do some things. My Dad told me about a doctor he knew that had one and the doctor was a champion fencer, you know a sword fighter. He competed all over the country. And this was 40 years ago. You can do anything you put your mind to do.

Just listen to your doctor and follow his orders, especially about the recovery after the surgery. Take your wife/significant other to the doctor's appointments so she can hear what the doctor says too. Two sets of ears are better than one. And she'll hear things you missed. If you don't have a wife/s.o., then take a friend/neighbor you TRUST. If the doctor says something you don't understand, make him tell you again and explain it to you. It's his job to communicate with you. Make him do his job.

It will take time to get your strength back after the surgery. And this type of major surgery is really hard on the body. So don't expect to do things like you did before the surgery. I've known people who still don't have all of their strength back a year after major surgery. Take it easy and pace yourself. You'll get there. Listen to the doctor, follow his orders and follow the diet they give you. The dietary stuff has really improved over the years and you'll feel better if you eat right.

Just remember, your HAMB brothers and sisters are praying for you and care about you. Keep us posted on your recovery and how you are doing your work on your projects. You know, little tips on how to work with the bag. And most importantly, how much you are enjoying working on your cars and how you did THAT work.

  13. Glad to hear things are looking up and it wasn't as bad as it could be.
By the way, there are better things than a colostomy bag to build a rod from. At least use a clean one.............

    Cory,
Your story hit me to the bone. I've got colon issues as well and have CC in the family.

So glad to see that you're on the road to recovery. Power of prayer, Bro! Way to go!

I'm going to go take some fiber now....

My mother got the bag 25 yrs ago, and went back 10 yrs ago and had it all reversed to the inside. You can't tell she ever had any problems at all now. She does anything she wants.

The place that did it is the country's leading spe******t and they have three locations (texas, florida, chicago). She went to the florida one since it is closest.

The bag is outdated today as it was a decade ago. Go for the innie!

having work in nursing for the last 25 years i understand what your going through you can still do it (most things) just have to be careful you just learn to adapt those bags sometimes are tuff to get off but you can do it all the best

  17. I have a friend a younger man, who was on the bag for quite awhile. he continued to work (Car restorer and bike builder) and even managed to get a couple of firsts at car and bike shows. He never talked about it much. I admire him with and without it.
    All the best to you
