Seems multi-carb intakes arent too abundant for windsor ford motors. What was available back in the 60's in aftermarket form? Im looking for a new intake/carb setup for my '63 fairlane and would like something period correct if possible.
I believe "buddy Bar" intakes came into play in about 65 or 66. Thats the first I remember . Shelby's had them .My neighbor is a ford nut. I'll ask him. TP
http://www.bluethunderauto.com They have a 3 x 2 for 289 and adapters for 351. They also have weber kits.
I don't know that there was much available in the 60's for 3x2 besides what was mentioned, but I do know there is a thread on here now about using a FI lower plenum and someone was making upper plenums for 3x2 setups. Really cool.
Ford offered a dealer install kit for the 289 271hp Fairlane in 63 or 64. 2x4 set ups were on the 64/65 B/FX Comets.
I used to have a Man-a-fre setup for the 289.It was four Rochesters mounted side by side.Really looked neat but I never got around to using it and traded it off.I have seen a 2X4 cross-ram I think Mickey Thompson made one for the sbf.You used to be able to get a setup running IDA webbers .
If you want something with 3 or more carbs you are going to pay an arm and a leg. There was a full 3 deuce set-up on ebay awhile back(can't remember manufacturer) but it went for $3200. SBF stuff it few and far between on that end.
Ive noticed the price of the multiple carb stuff too. Maybe ill just settle for an F4B intake and single holley 4bbl for now.
As said before, they are few and far between. I've seen a lot of 2x4 and a few 3x2 setups, mostly over-the-counter dealer stuff. There was a cross-ram on here a while ago for 500 bucks. I'd say if you want something other than dual quads, get out the checkbook or the welder!
A buddy had a 289 with a Wiand single four barrel high rise and a 600 Holley. This would have been about 1968. The kid claimed it would scream, it also had a cam, headers, and hot ignition.
Ford had two of the 3X2 set ups, one for the earlier 221 & 260 engines and one for the 289. The earlier one had smaller carbs on it for the smaller cubes. I will have to look up my info to tell you what was the difference. There were two 2X4 intakes with one taking Holleys and one taking AFBs or such. There was a 4x2 weber intake and aftermarket fuel injection. There was several aftermarket intakes including a 2X4 crossram and some 2X4 inlines. Thats all my memory will allow me to post right now.
Offenhouser (SP?) made intakes for about everything american in the '60s as well as weiand. I used to run wieand intakes almost exclusively as I couldn't afford offy stuff back then. I think that 2x4 were probably more common than 3x2s in that time period, at least they were more popular with the go fast crowd in my part of the country.
