I'm in the Chicago burbs for a temporary ***ignment. Things have been going fine until Friday...when my company truck (old chevy S10) stops running. The guys from Hot Rod Ch***is rode out to look it over, but its got one of those onboard computers and the guys couldn't do anything with it?! Lucky for me Blondie-X stop up for the weekend and we went to Voodoo Larrys "New Shop Open House". Good times and friendly faces, not to mention kool kustoms. Blondie-X went back home today and my truck still isn't working?! (Its setting at the service station) Okay, here's the deal....If any HAMBers want to hang out...while I'm trying to get the truck fixed. PM me or if you have my number? Call me...I'm stuck in Yorkville and bored!!!
You should have had a V8. Ha ha ha That ****s Bizmon. You are probably hanging with some kool guys now anyway. Good Luck
Well I spent last Thrursday night in Yorkville but I left Friday morning for home. My mother is from Yorkville and we were there for a relatives funeral. I looked around town some as I thought there was supposed to be a So Cal Speedshop there but I did not see one. I spent part of the summer there each year through most of 50's and 60's and just about every Christmas. That little country town sure has changed. My great grandfathers blacksmith shop was on the main highway through town beside the railroad tracks near the bridge. Not a bad place to be stuck. Couple of nice bars downtown. John
Scott, Thanks, for checking on me...But I'm still bored. Tomorrow should be better, providing they can fix my truck... Otherwise I'm looking for another vehicle, maybe something with a V8?!
Sorry, to hear about your loss... Your right its not that bad...just no one to hang out with?! I'm a few miles from town (on Route 34) Since, its Sunday night and the bars are closed.... I'll wait until they fix my truck or maybe I'll look for a replacement. Either way, I'll be celebrating at the bars later this week?!
Was your great-grandfather Homer Dixon?? Or did he sell the property to him? Or was he across the street from Homer's place? My grandfather worked for Homer back in the 50's I believe and my dad worked there as a teenager (late 50's maybe).
Wow....I would've never thought I'd see that little town on this board. I was born and spent the first 10 years of my life there. In fact, I have several cousins that still live in the area and we just buried my grandmother up there in Feb of this year (and I was there). My other grandparents had a 60 ac farm up on the north side of town. They p***ed away many years ago and had actually retired down south with us. I have lots of memories there. And, it has changed over the years. But, in a lot of ways its still the same.
**** Houck was my great grandfather. His shop was on the east side of the street near the tracks on the south side of the bridge. My grandfather did mechanic work in part of the blacksmith shop. They sold Phillips 66 gas. I think he closed the shop in the mid 50's. My grandmother was an elementary school teacher (Mae Houck). They lived on south Main near the Tastee Freeze. John
Well, I called my dad this morning to ask a few questions. My family definitely knew yours for sure (it is a small town). My dad said he is somewhat sure he had Mae Houck as a teacher in elementary school at some point. And, he said that my grandfather knew **** as my dad knew the name as well. My grandfather worked for Homer across the street from **** as a mechanic in the 50's. But he also had a shop at some point somewhere else (dad wasn't sure where). I'm sure he and **** crossed paths a good bit. Your mom may know the name of Elizabeth and Art Leifheit. Those are my grandparents. My grandfather p***ed away in 1960 (my dad was 14) and my grandmother just p***ed away this past Feb (age 97). I certainly do remember the Tastee Freez, too. When I was a kid, it was the older one (not the building there now). I had to laugh when I was there back in Feb that the big ice cream cone was still marking the parking lot. I also played baseball as a kid down Van Emmon Street at the old ball fields down by the tracks (and near the river).
It seems like there's a lot of kool small town history here?! Wouldn't mine checking it out. Hopefully, I'll get that chance....that is if I can get my truck fixed?!? Can't say I'll be walking anywhere just yet?! I'm setting out the thunder storm toady... The service station is going to call when they figure out what's wrong with my truck. Plan "B" might include purchasing another truck... Pre-60's...,something without an onboard computer fuse system!!!
Okay, for those of you following my drama...?! The timing chain gave out after all the miles... I've driven the company truck (S10) since it was new in 97' all over the Mid-west and a few point beyond... So, I can't complain too much, after all its way past the warranty milage for a timing change?! I should be back on the road tomorrow, after paying the service station $350 (parts/service) Hopefully, some local IL HAMBers will drop by tonight and I can get out and about. If anyone is selling a Pre-60s truck that's driveable...PM me.
Just wanted to thank all the HAMBers who've made my stay in Yorkville a little more enjoyable.... I got my (S10) company truck back from the shop and its barely running...One of the cyclinders is stuck.... So, it limp back to where I'm staying. Its pretty much only good for parts now Blondie-X is driving here tonight and I'm heading back home with her. I'll be back....to get the truck?! or If anyone want to make a trade for it....PM me.
Hey is that thing a long box s10? Just wondering. LOL That ****s to go through all that. I got a Blazer with a 350 TPI that will get ya home real quick.
Scott, Does that mean you might want to trade?! Blondie-X and I made it home last night....now I need to figure out what to do with that S-10?
