Discussion in 'The Hokey Ass Message Board' started by 4ever17, Aug 4, 2008.

  1. Do all 2.02 heads have the double hump cast in them?? I have friend that thinks his are 2.02 but don't have the tell tale humps.

    Thanks

Most 1.94 and 2.02 Chevy heads had the double humps. Are you sure they're GM heads?

Not all do, 1.94 and 2.02 "Fulie" heads have the double humps.

No, there are alot of other heads that had 2.02 valves, plus not all "double hump" heads had 2.02, many have 1.94. Plus alot of people along the way have machined various heads to fit 2.02...

There's a post in the tech section all about these heads.

FYI not all double hump heads are "fulie" the real fulie heads had angled plugs.

Best thing to do is look up the casting numbers.

  9. NOT true. The "fuelie" thing (fuel injected Vettes) was long gone (1965ish) when the angle plug appeared on the scene (around 1970). Also, fuelie heads came from the factory on fuel injected Vettes, while angle plugs were only over the counter or dealer installed.

  10. There were some heads with the bigger valves, and no humps. I'm gonna guess the mid-70's L-82 version of the Vette 350, but not too sure. Plus, as others have said, thousands of SBC heads were machined for the 2.02's through the years

Your probley right about the 70's angles, i just once had an old timer scold me for calling a set fulies and he pointed out that not all camel humps are fulies.

The term "fuelie" connected with Chevrolet cylinder heads was a misnomer that allowed many small bock owners to puff out their chests and look down their noses at "the lowly unwashed m***es" that owned generic SBC's while knowing little more than the term ***ociated with the real thing. The name has been applied, at one time or another to just about every head casting that came out of the General Motors casting plant in Saginaw Michigan in an effort to 1. increase the value of heads that were for sale 2. Impart a sense of envy to those parked next to the owner at the drive in on a Fri/sat. night.
The 2.02/1.6 valve heads were used on other engine packages that were NOT fuel injected. I have a few sets but I'm asking astronomical prices. After all they are "fuelie" heads.:eek::D
Ever heard the term 3/4 race cam? I always wanted to finish the whole race, not just 990 feet of it.

  15. It did have double humps, but they were far less pronounced or obvious

Well, well, well, now with the new 1000 foot rule for fuel cars, that 3/4 cam will just about finish these days.:cool::D Maybe the 3/4 cam was well ahead of it's time?:rolleyes::D:p

Then you need to step up to a full race cam.

Kinda weird how two cam grinds used to cover just about everything. And they didn't even give the specs on most of them.

BTW, if your looking at a set of double bump heads and wondering if they're factory 2.02 here's an easy way to tell. The factory 2.02 had the chamber machined on the outside of the intake valve to unshoud it. If it just has the factory casting in the chamber, they were 1.94's even if they have 2.02 intakes now.
