Man, you all sure are helping this poor guy to find a place to visit for his short timeline he has been allotted. Jivepbomber asked your opnions and suggestions of where to visit and sight see, not your poiltical viewpoints.

ummmmm.......I didnt really get your point???????

My call sign is "Mark in Japan", coz I'm Mark.....and I'm in Japan.

My email addy is "kustomsamurai" inferring an interest in kustom cars while in Japan.......and when its ******* rain and a typhoon is hitting, its ME, Nash, the Pumpkin Sally guys and a few other hardcases that are there.
I come straight home and post pix for everyone here in the HAMB world to see.

When racist rednecks go anti-Japan.......I call it as wrong.
When HAMBers just ***ume that I AM Japanese...I usually let them go for a while before I expose their prejudice.
When Japanese radical ultranationalists go anti-EVERYONE.....I call it as wrong.
When naive western people talk about the idealistic utopian Japan of today......I call it as wrong and do my best to educate.
When people from my home town Melbourne, Australia, stand up against other's racist rants.....I simply point out that I'm from the same city, and as such,...understand his mindset very well.
If you want to look through ALL of my posts......feel free to judge me as you want.....coz I don't care that much what you think.

....and most importantly to THIS thread.......

I was the first guy to PM him (weeks ago) with a list of interesting things to see in a short time in Tokyo....and an invitation to spend MY time to show them around MYSELF.

This is an offer that I have blindly offered to quite a few HAMBers that have PMed me when coming to Tokyo, and we had a GOOD TIME!

...so what exactly am I "POSING" as??????????

Sounds like a hell of a tour guide. Get to see Tokyo from a "westerner's" perspective AND a hot rodders. Sounds like a blast. I'll keep that in mind if my work ever sends me there again. It was a great city to wander in and I never felt un-safe any where I went.

Most of my time was in Shin Yokohama but a bit around Hotel New Otani in Tokyo. I heard they filmed a James Bond movie there in the 60s. It was gorgeous.

I also love Yoru No Taki. It was a dive chain of 'chicken on a stick' places and was like Waffle House in that they were cheap and everywhere. Best part was they were owned by Sapporo Breweries and the beer was great and the food delicious. Don't ask what it is, just eat it! Okie Beeru!!

Have a great trip and do what I did, skipped all the BS posts from the haters and answered the question. I'd go to Yoru No Taki and eat chicken on a stick and drink Sapporo until I puked. Wait, I've DONE that already...:p Too bad it was 10-12 years ago. I better go back.

My views having nothing to do with thinking Japan is inferior to us. I just like to see the record kept straight.
"the straight record is that they ARE inferior-don't get all polite just coz you got called out in public"

I may be wrong, but when I see comments like the one above I can't help but think there's some rascism going on. I read your comments as negative towards the Japanese culture and thought it was hypocritical to use "Samurai" in your email addy. I for one don't think of Japan as the utopian dream either, I don't know of one that exists. I am just tired of hearing the Japanese builders catch grief for no particular reason. If I am off base with my observations then let peace prevail. This thread has gotten waaaay off course. I hope Jive-Bomber enjoyed his trip.

Ok, now for some info... although since Jive-Bomber is already in Japan, it will probably reach him too late. One of the more unusual things I have seen in Japan is what's called AutoRace. But, it has nothing to do with autos, but with motorcycles. I went to a place years ago in the Fukuoka area. Really cool. You see, it's basically just like going to the track and betting on a horse, except with AutoRace, you are putting money down on motorcycle racers... all equally prepared old-school single cylinder bikes. Sorta like Speedway, but not quite, and they run on pavement. I remember about 8 bikes (each rider is only identified by numbers and colors) on track for each race, and they race all day. The engines are sealed and they are inspected before and after the racing. I've never been much for gambling, but for a gearhead, I couldn't resist. This was probably one of the funnest times I ever had in Japan... betting cash on non-muffled bikes roaring around a giant slightly-banked oval while drinking a couple of beers.

    CHECK IT OUT HERE.

I spent 2 years in Okinanwa and got to mainland Japan once. Its really a great place but sure makes you love the states all that more. On a serious note, the site where the first atomic bomb fell in Hiroshima is a must see. A very erie place. On a lighter note, you have got to see the "banana show". If your wife is going, that is probably out of the question.
