Folks Of Interest "Our Good Friends"

Discussion in 'The Hokey Ass Message Board' started by onetalltexan, Jul 31, 2008.

  1. I still read but I have not posted in some time...just too busy, but I am beside myself today. Anybody out there ever get really screwed over by a "good friend"? Not just a pay you later, and you never see the money or can I borrow that and I'll give it back to you never...I just got a reverse restoration. I just had a perfectly clean and damn near rust free car rusted and mildewed beyond belief. This buddy let one of his shop hands move my cars to a boat storage building, he left the windows down and parked it in a place that got nearly 2-3 inches of water running through at sometime. It would have been real nice for storing cigars...but not a 2 door hardtop. The real bad news is the car that would fire under six feet of water (metaphorically speaking) will turn but not start. One '55 Pontiac from solid to ****!!!:(

Did your friend really know that this abuse had occurred? I have been screwed by friends in the past and I no longer do favors for people who I don't owe a favor too, also there are some friends that did enough wrong to make me end my friendship with them.

  3. This guy and myself go way back, and he was gonna fire the guy that parked it in the boat storage, but I (being some sort of nice guy) told him to have a chat and leave him be. Hard working people worth their wage are hard to find, and he has two little girls.

How long was it in there?

Kinda had a little heart scare and parked myself away from the car and everything else. Now I just wanna move on and either drive, breath and live or just kick off and drop dead. Not what I thought I'd say at 32 years old and still in "great" shape.

Damn thing is I am racking my brain about why it won't fire, turn sure seems slow and gas is good, but I cant crank it up, maybe brain dead too (hehehe)!

    did You check the points?
they hate corrosion....and the gas could be ****, as well.

  7. Gas looks clean and smells like gas, no varnishing. Points are marginal, replacing them tomorrow, and fuel filter just for giggles. I had to thump the starter to free it up, that is what really scares me...if it got rust there, God only knows what else happened! Spark is not what it used to be, coil may be **** too (oem AC DELCO).

And your ground connection may be corroded as well.

Start with easy things first. Fresh gas, plugs, points, and condenser. Then check coil.

  10. Ha Ha, joke was on me....bad gas and a dry fuel line. She fired after buying new plugs and points...that are still sitting on the shelf! I am still pissed off about the condition of the car, guess I am the dumb*** who trusted a friend.

Really had nothing to do with trusting a friend. Had more to do with you taking responsiblity for your own car and making sure the car was fine every so often. I can't imagine leaving my car parked somewhere and not checking on it every couple of weeks to make sure everythings ok. Hell, I park it in my own garage but open the garage and check out the car every couple of weeks during the winter months, start it up, back it down the driveway, pull it back in, make sure no critters are around, etc. My car, my responsibility.
