I'm thinking of going to rams horns on the Model A. 283 bla bla bla. I need to find some 90 degree down pipes that bolt to the 3 bolt flange and sandwich the exhaust donut. also 1 side has a flat bottom for the heat riser I guess.So I'll probably need a piece to go in there also Searched the net in vain. Any help would be appreciated. thanks as always.
Check your local exhaust shops, I make stuff like that for guys all the time. I keep a couple ramshorns is stock and a couple heat risers too. Anyway, a good exhaust shop should be able to hook you up. Enfo
Any competent muffler shop can make a pipe for you. You are missing the heat riser on the one with the long studs and flat gasket surface. Just flaring the pipe is not enough for a fiber style donut. It will burn out quickly. If you go with the fiber donut the pipe will need an internal sleeve to keep the hot gases from burning out the gasket. Some benders can make the flare with the internal sleeve but others will have to expand a piece of 1 7/8" tubing inside. Here is one installed. It takes a flat gasket between the manifold and the heat riser. Some guys have used a die grinder to create their own bevel and some have used the flat gasket and had the muffler shop make a flat flare on the pipe. Obviously you'd need to replace the long studs with the short studs if you go that way. I could still get the heat riser from muffler supply houses a few years ago. I'd bet that they are available from the 55-64 Chevy parts suppliers for the restorers.
