Went out yesterday to find a big puddle of brake fluid under my 51 fleetline.
Cant see where its actually leaking from but its directly under the MC, funny thing is I still have a solid pedal (?!).

An MC rebuild kit came with the car, but I tend to stay away from at home rebuild kit on brake stuff and figure its prolly time for a dual reservoir upgrade anyway. Im assuming I need to keep the stock MC in place because of the clutch pedal mount.

Anyone have any recommendations on any of the aftermarkets MC kits out there?

national chevy association has a setup thal slides right in in the existing location, and even provides for pedal mounting

many people use the original master cylinder to hold the pedal and mount a late model master behind it. you just take out the guts and run a longer rod through the original cylinder.

  9. Actually I made my own. I took the original pushrod, cut it short and threaded it. I then got a piece of thick walled tubing and tapped it for the old rod end. on the other side of the rod I also tapped and put a bolt that I rounded the head on. If you want I would be more than happy to pull it out and get a picture of it for you. Todd

Todd, I saw the picture on your photobucket album, nice job! If its no problem a pic of the rod and bolt would be awesome!

Shifty, all I can find on the ECI site is 40-54 for automatic only.

  13. Bilko and I used the same bracket. Got it from ECI....they have one for both the automatic and the standard trans. The thing I like about it is that the new dual master (Bilko and I used a Mustang dual master for disc brakes) is still in the stock location. Keeping the stock master as the pedal mount and putting the new master behind it puts it under the seat. I decided that might be a not fun place to fill it, so went with the ECI bracket. Thanks guys! Great post drdave, that sheds a bunch of light on the disk brake thing. Not sure if funds will permit doing the disks now, but It's on my to do list for later

  15. Tugmaster, the m/c bracket looks great. I'll probably build mine this winter. Thanks.
