Granted I'm not there yet but I'm going to need new front and rear bumpers for my 50 Chevy. I can get new one piece bumpers from Chevs of the 40's for about $350 each. What kind of money am I looking at to get my old ones replated? The center section of the rear will need to be replaced. I can probably scare one up on Ebay. Does anyone know any rebutable platers? I would prefer somewhere in New England but somewhere else is not out of the question. Thanks, Todd
Least expensive platers are in Texas as they have the least-restrictive EPA regs in the country. Try them, might be worth the freight. Spent $500 just to chrome my windshield fram in Seattle. IMO, the $350 cost is really not that bad.
I do not know one person that has bought repop bumpers of any sort that was happy with them especially after 3-5 years, or less for some. Try to find a better rear core and have them replated. You will be happy you did. I don't think it would be too far off from the $350 for new ones either.
We have a few down here in the pollution capitol of the world who I'm told aren't too bad. I'll get the names from my friend tomorrow. He build the Kopper Kart so they know what good plating is. I have used Mara plating in Newark but that was a long time a go. From what I understand one of the brothers split off and has his own business now. I send all my bike chrome to a few guys one in Kentucky and the other in Tenn. but unfortunately they don't do car chrome. With the price of fuel everythign has gone through the roof as far as shipping. I use DHL ground for stuff like that they are the cheapest
weve had some stuff replated by beaman quality plating in yuma, colorado for some cars at the shop, they do a good job and if i remember right were pretty reasonable on price.
Keystone auto supplies is a nationwide (I think) PPG dealer that have a bumper replating shop in Minnesota . Here in Charlotte you can drop them and they will handle it from there.
He's absolutely right. I plan to use these guys. $150 and they rechromed a buddies bumper awhile back off a 70's Challenger. It's worth a phone call at least. http://pulidochromeplating.com/home.html Good luck Tug! Jef
for my motorcycle and whizzer stuff i used to use international chrome platers in providence RI//excellent workmanship not cheap
Don't just go for the price. Make shure thay first copper plate then put on nickel then the chrome. Some shops just put on the chrome. It should have a blue tint if it's dun right.
S&H Plating in Madison, Tennessee (Nashville area) does hellova job. Call 615-865-0100, ask for Sam, tell him Studebaker Joe sent you. Does excellent work and has never LOST a part.............
When dealing with platers you get 3 options: Good, Fast or Cheap. Unfortunately, you only get to choose 2. Good and fast aint cheap, fast and cheap ain't good. You get the idea.
