I just saw this on Rob Kinnan's blog:

"Here are all the covers of HOT ROD Magazine - 60 years worth of hot rodding heritage. From our first issue back in January 1948 all the way to the latest issue currently on the newsstand you can browse through the evolution of hot rodding as only HOT ROD could cover it. You can also vote for your favorite from each year and later in the year we'll have a final showdown to find out which is the most popular HOT ROD cover as voted by you."

Funny how it starts in 1948 and outta 12 issues there the newest car on any cover was a 36 ford!

April '67 is my favorite, because my dad was driving the car in that pic.

Wow, so many memories just came back! I can damn near remember where I was and what I was doing, when I look at some of those covers. Scares me that I once thought vans were the coolest thing ever.

Yeah man, that van thing was huge. I liked those groovy van Ads, you know, with the teen kids parked on the beach playing guitars, girls in denim cut offs, mini bikes, the speed boat, drinking soda pop.

Hey thanks for posting this. Ive been looking for a place to see every cover.

Wonder why they dont have a perfect set of all years to scan? Some of those covers are a bit worn.

Boy does that bring back old memories. May 1961 was my 1st Hot rod magazine, I was 10 years old. I have most of the 60s issues.

    Thanks,

I was looking for covers of early issues of Hot Rod magazine last week, I couldn't find any. Now I have access to all of 'em.

  21. That's cool!

Now if Source Interlink could get the covers in '74 right instead of showing '54 again!

that's exactly what I was going to say!

I imagine a day when you can buy a year's worth of Hot Rod on cd. Imagine having every magazine as a searchable PDF file. Want to know about a specific car? Search for some keywords or a name, and there it is.

Several major magazines are offering electronic versions, and have for some time now. Imagine if they went retroactive. Start at the begining, where the most interest is, and play catchup.

I found a program where you can take a picture of a page, and it flattens it out like a scan. Then have it converted to searchable text, and save it as a PDF. Major museums and libraries are starting to do this.

The first magazines are about 60yrs old, I think some serious thought needs to be put into archiving them!
