So on my el camino i'm currently running and driving fine with No fan, bit it doesn't like stop and go, Imagine that, so i probably should add a fan

So i'm looking the fan that will rob the least amount of power, I dont like clutch fans and i think electrics are Totally wrong on a old style car, I just want a basic 4 blade

My guess would be an early Nova, like '62-'65.

stay away from factory fans and get yourself the biggest stainless flex fan you can fit. at speed the blades flatten out which uses less horsepower.

Flex fans didnt come out 'till late 70's or 80's right??, i might as well get a electic, plus its a ***** to turn one over by hand if you dont have a socket

Speedway in Nebraska and Summit both sell a nice mechanical 6 blade fan. The smallest is 15 inches. They also come in 17, 18 and 19 inch sizes. They move a good bit of air. They have a universal bolt pattern ( early and late Chevrolet both work ). Less than 30 dollars brand new.

I ran one on my old 40 Ford with a 283 ... cooled it real nice.

Early Vettes had smallest fans that fit the standard Chevy water pump hub, but being Vette parts, they tend to be expensive. You might get lucky and find one cheap if the seller does not know it is a Vette part. The easier solution is to merely cut down a standard fan. Try to do the same trim on each blade. A knife edge static rebalance will be good enough.

my 55 pontiac has a 4 blade, 19" fan...and it moves alot of air for what it is.

oh yeah...flex fans are junk !!!!

  9. I pulled a stainless flex fan - with clutch no less - off a '64 Gran Prix. Was standard on AC and HD cooling.. not sure why mine had it, maybe it's a later part. I think most any GM fan will swap around, the bolt patterns are the same.

Dont know what year El Camino you have but my old Pontiac with the stock 389 had no issues with the stock 4-blade fan. I have a three-blade on the beater and sometimes it runs hot for no apparent reason, I had a 7-blade on and managed to wreck it within days of installing it, so...
