This is recycled in that another Hamber found it a while ago, now I have drug it from his barn to my barn. It is a '29 4dr that was turned into a pickup, allegedly by a couple of HS kids nearly 60 years ago. If you like patina, this thing is priceless! Ha! It is totally crude, sort of a mix of Ma and Pa Kettle and the Beverly Hillbillies.

The Bad It runs pretty rough so far, lots of excess explosions under the hood. Not much power...OK, it never had any to start with, but you know what I mean. I have only driven it a couple of miles. The interior smells like a hamster cage that hasn't been changed in a month. (or maybe 40 years?) The body is beat. The bed is not Henry made. It has 3 15 inch wires and one 16" wire. Poverty Flats fixed me up with three more 16" rims. The glass is mostly shot. It is loud.

The Good..It runs! It sounds wonderful at idle. Carb rebuilt. Body is beat. (yup, a positive and a negative) The brakes are fairly good considering it is a jalopy. It sits pretty comfortable. The windows all work, after a fashion. It is loud. Steers pretty fair, a bit stiff but better than a few restored cars I have driven. Fuel tank is clean and hole free. It is so ugly it looks kinda good. A great example of what folks used to do with Model A's back when they were worth $5 if they ran decent. The smell of the interior is a good theft deterrantant, and those not in the know would probably want to get a tetanus shot before they would touch it or ride in it. Tail lights work, brake light works. Gas gauge works. Not much rust. Not expensive, although one of my brothers asked me how much they paid to have me haul it off.

Anyway, a new toy is fun. I don't have to worry about it getting scratched or dinged. And it's mine. Or is that last thing a negative? Ha! (the wife thinks its neat, so I'm in good shape)

Looks cool to me. I say clean it up, get rid of the bad smell and drive it the way it is for a while. Then maybe hop up the motor some in the future or replace it with a flathead V8. I like the odd bed actually and think it gives it more character.

My Dad had a '29 Model A sedan he found converted. He cleaned up the hack job and made a nice little rod. I put alot of miles on that truck. It was a little cramped but wish I had it now.....

No doubt about it! Can't guarantee it'll start, though. It is still in the cantankerous stage.

  15. Cool ride....check out the recent thread on Briggs bodied Model A's. I'm thinkin' the was one of the rarer Briggs Town Sedans. The rib on the hood is a dead giveaway.

Pretty cool find. LIke others I'd fix it to the point it was reliable and functional and drive the wheels off it.

    I saw that at KKOA.
Fell in love with it, but didn't have the cash to 'drive' it home.

[More pictures please I'll get some gory pictures of the "quality body work".

John, You would be wrong there...:D

Banger with mechanical brakes. It'll take some tlc to wake this old gal up from her long slumber. She's still grouchy and doesn't want to wake up all the way. I think ignition is part of it, plus parts that haven't been moving in decades. The short rides I have had are fun, smelly, and noisy!

One thing I will clue you in about. That was a briggs bodied 4 door, the only model with the cowl band like the 30-31 model A's had. But, it is not the same and is unique to that car and not repoped by anyone. That band is probably worth almost as much as the rest of the truck. pretty cool stuff though. I think the back may be from a 30-31 though and not the 29 based on the ribs on the body. My dad has a 29 briggs so I will have to look at his again and see about the style of the back to be shure. Good luck with the project

OK, the first pics show it at its best. Here's the rest of the story....some pretty rough work was done on it. I'll get more pics later, my 28K dial-up modem kills me....

leave as it is and drive the hell out of it

  27. I also say that at the KKOA show in Salina. Looked like a killer truck for a driver. I wouldn't do anything to it but drive it.

I have no intention of trying to make this old gal "pretty". I must get tires for it, it is about halfway like riding a pogo stick :p because of the set the rotton old rubber took from sitting so long. My plans are saftey and reliability first, then maybe some work on the old banger to make her move a little better.

More gory pics of the body....the trailer hitch bar is actually a cut up front axle. Dig the dual pipes with flex pipe through the bed. Those may just have to go. Non functionin now,, and i'm not much into semi tractor pipes on a pickup.
