First cut into three equal pieces. Discard the middle and weld the two remanding pieces together. You will end up with something like this.

Is that a unitbody car? If so, you better know what your doing, unless you intend on building a frame for it. Either way, looks like a lot of work. Gene

    It'll look funny...

Business coupes had really long trunks in the old days.

I think it would take a lot of work to make it look right.

I don't think it's the trunk that is the problem, the door will have to be lengthened:

I personally think those "shorty" cars always look stupid. Guys do this with tri-5 Chevys all the time and I've never seen one I thought looked good.

But I wouldn't give up on this car yet. I personally would try to track down a junk 2 door post car and use the doors and quarter panel parts to make your car into a two door sedan, and then just work off of that. It's somewhat time consuming but WAY easier than shortening the whole car and it'll look a lot nicer when you're done.

Here's a link to a tech I did showing the conversion process (I love to ***** this thread out whenever I can)

All you need is a pair of 2 door sedan doors to make it into a 2 door sedan. The "B" pilar will have to be moved back to fit the doors, and the rear door "skinned" to get the sheetmetal for the rear quarter, but it is do-able. I have converted a couple of '64 Fairlane 4 doors into 2 doors. I will try to dig up some pics.

I actually had one like that once. I bought it from a junkyard in florida. Had a straight axle under it too. don't know what the history was. It was the merc version but that's exactly what was done to it so clearly you can do it. there was a 61 falcon shorty on ebay about two months ago also for $1200 that was done a reeeeally long time ago. it was pretty rough. so for whatever reason, at least two of these were done a long time ago so technically it is "traditional" at this point.

This would be an ***-load of work for little gain, the more-door g***er idea would work a lot better.

There is a Comet 4-dr drag car in MI that really looks great & runs like stink! Put your time & $$$ into the drivetrain. A lot of guys get 1//2 way thru a project like this & then it ends up in the s**** yard.

I vote for leaving it original length and finding two door doors and moving the B pillar back like Drive Em said.

I appreciate the opinions....I was never a fan of "shortys" either but I thinking of about a 105 inch wheelbase, less than a foot removed rather than to have to drive it sitting in the old back seat.I thought about the two door conversion idea...I also thought about just paintng it and driving it but I'm sure I'd get bored with that.. The mercedes comments did make my stomach turn some. I have a couple others I need to finsh before I do anything with the Ford but the food for thought is a good thing.

There is a local guy here in Baltimore with a 66 / 67 Chevelle that was a 4 door car, now it is a real shorty, yellow, strange looking thing. If I see it out this weekend, I'll post a pic.....
leave it a 4 door and drive it......my 2 cents

There's a two door for sale on the local craigslist for $14K, about the same cost in time and money as you would spend on doing your project.

  26. If you have the talent to take on something like that, don't you think it'd be wasted on something like that?

That is why I ask for opinions.. It's easy to look at stuff and say"I can do that" then when it's done say "now what do I have"...Did that with this car.. [IMG]
