Someone had a sale on white T's and hair grease....

Nice to see someone has some motivation to just get it done.

Hell of a good job and that "hood scoop" somebody so fondly called it is I'm sure a pie cut section of the hood. really makes those Chevys look sleek!

I like the shape so far.
Watch out you don't get a flat spot where the back window frame section is welded to the roof. flex a lathe, strip of steel, fishing pole, whatever will bend in a gentle arc over the whole top and check for areas that don't follow that arc, low spots, flat spots, high spots.
You guys got a gas torch?
You're gonna need it to hammer weld and shrink the "owies" out of it.
and to spread the lead...Youu are going to lead it, right? [IMG]
What happened to that drip rail? [IMG]
Anything can be done or redone with just some more cutting and welding.
Good looking family riding in there!!! [IMG]

  14. He doesnt plan on filling the rear window does he?

  15. Bet that old paint welds nicely?

  16. Pretty haircuts.

Nice job on the chop too.

Howza bout some criticism? You gotta be more careful about making your cuts, and having little to no gap at the seams...esp. on the windshield posts. Doesn't make for a nice weld job, with huge gaps! More work, more grinding, more warping, more bondo!

Yeah, that's kinda what I was thinking too but you may notice my similar-year Poncho coupe isn't chopped so I don't have a lotta room to whine.
I was also wondering if the structure inside the posts has been welded back together.
Are all the relief cuts really necessary? Seems like a helluva lotta work to smooth out all that welding.
That said, I always did love the look of a chopped 40s GM coupe...keep us informed on further developments as he puts it back together..Thanks.

  21. looking pretty good....overall...hope the details sort out nicely...hope you were all weariung sunscreen! [IMG]..how long it take to do?????

    Cheers

I helped on this car(I'm driving in the big group picture)and i gotta say, that sunscreen comment would have been helpful before we started. I look like Hank Hill when i take my shirt off now. That being said, the back window is not being filled. The car looks good, but there's still a lot of work to do. The relief cuts could probably have been planned better, but live and learn i guess. We started on the car about 12:30, stopped for BBQ, and wrapped it up about 9. We got the roof chopped, and the p***eneger side post moved back, but everything is still just tacked.

  24. Thats the key, you LEARNED from what you did! From what I can tell the profile will be nice.
