This is the hardest time selling a car I've ever had. Twice now with no interest. I have sold a jeep that didn't even run for 1000 and got like 6 different people interested. Putting a dilemma in my pocket fund for the 53.

Anybody else have any "cant sell this for the life of me" stories?

  2. It helps to be rust free.

Its not like most people are rolling in extra $$ these days. Its tough on everyone selling cars.

I have three '54 ford 2 door station wagons that I can not seem to give away. I guess people have not seen what kind of money finished wagons have been bringing. Not to mention that there is something cool about a hot-rod wagon.

I have never had this hard of a time getting rid of a car either. I usually sell my stuff way to cheap. Guess I will start parting them out soon!

selling a car is rarely a walk in the park, plus times are tough for many people these days.

Put red wheels on it, and let it rust to that perfect patina.
On second thought, don't do either.
Around here it's hard to find anything that isn't rusted, or covered with car in a can stuff.
    Good Luck!

It's a 63. The body work is manageable to anybody who has done it before once or twice. I just want the thing gone. I don't really dig it.

The wire wheels and rustolem paint job don't help it much.

I know that doesn't help. I don't like it much. It's my wife's. It's not like you cant get a decent set of tires/wheels for under 3 bills.

My wife bought it with the paintjob for 2,500 from some tweaker in Taft.. The old tires were thrashed and that's all I had. I do have the original hubcaps.

  13. Didn't we do this thread a while back about some dude with a '36 Olds?

Got a you-pull-it yard handy? Get some wheels there. Maybe S10 steel rallye rims would do it. Do some of the rust work so people can see just what it needs.

The rest is advertise the hell out of it and price it with room to negotiate.

It's pretty well known that project cars have dropped off in price faster than other segments of our hobby. They had gotten pretty high priced for a while with alot speculators buying them and holding them for future project builds. Now alot of those people have been dumping them. You can still get it sold but may take longer and you will have to try harder than before.

Folks are holding their cash or dumping stuff for cheap because they need cash. Guy next door bought a $3000 motor yesterday, freshly build (what they build cost) for $1500 to drop in a vette. The bought a $30,000 mustang for $9. I've bought 4 cars for next to nothing in the last month...and this is in Houston where the economy is still very strong.

Also, toss in the cost of transportation and that car is really out of the market right now. I p***ed on one in as good or better shape here in town for $1200.

As always, either keep it for what you need to get out of it or sell it for what you can get. We've entered a buyers market now so fix the rust, tidy the interior (seat covers can be had for $100), clean the paint off the painted over emblems. Paint job looks like it was tossed on to hide other problems IMO making it a walkaway from folks who know cars.

have you put it up on the HAMB cl***ifieds, if not that could be your first mistake. If your listing it on CL, your bound to get some tire kickers..

  21. Every now and then you get stuck with the car that won't go away...either drop the price or clean it up as much and cheaply as possible...shave the rear door handles and sell some Surfer on the beach cruiser idea...my .02

Consider this.... without getting into politics here.... in 1930 the unemployment rate rose from 3.2% to 8.7%. This was the year AFTER the stock market crashed. The unemployment eventually hit 25% by 1933.

I could be off a bit on this one... but I believe... last I heard... the unemployment rate was at 5.6%. This doesn't account for all of those folks who have fallen off the unemployment rolls without aquiring new jobs. There is much debate about how large a portion of the population this is. But lets just be generous and say that at a minimum there are some so that we can realise the unemployment rate is actually higher than calculated.

My point.... people are hurting right now. You may need to decide whether or not to sit on your car for a while and wait things out.... or take a whooping now.

It's on here, stevesnovasite, cl, ebay and another local cl***ified ad.

  25. Not to mention the cost of living right now is ridiculous with food prices, gas prices, insurances, etc...especially here in SoCal...so even if you are gainfully employed some are barely getting by

I agree. 2K is VERY high for a moredoor in that shape.
I LOVE wagons and I've been looking for a ChevyII for a while.

Bad paint, needs chrome, bumpers need straightning, RUST.., moredoors, the 6 banger, the unfinished odd grill..... and no interior?
If I was kicking the tires I'd offer $750 and walk if you came back anything over a grand.

So there is no way this will bring in 2000? If I fixed the rust spots and the seat covers, what would that get me to? I can't let this thing go for less, wife won't sell it for less than she bought it.
