I have two questions hope yall can help. 1st- What late model Chevy disc brakes can I bolt on my 51 Chevy spindles??? 2nd- Also I have mid 50s Chevy truck speedo in my 51 Sedan how and where can I get a cable to hook up to a 350turbo tranny? I have a S-10 rear end with 3:73s Thanks for your help, I figured if I can get factory Chevy parts instead of buying a kit I can prolly save a few beans... Brandon
speedwaymotors sells a conversion kit. but check with 50chevy.com tech section for some leads. they're there.
Someone posted on here a while back 1st gen Camaro rotors work and they thought you could bolt on the caliper bracket too. That seems unlikely, but worth a shot. 1st gens must share that suspension with something other than just Firebird... A speedo cable is a speedo cable, the only difference is some screw on at both ends, some use a clip on the speedo housing instead. You just need to know how long it needs to be. But otherwise as long as it has the right top end any GM car cable aught to work.
Here is a link to the swap that drdave and I both have done on our 49's! Any questions feel free to ask. http://www.jalopyjournal.com/forum/showthread.php?t=179331&highlight=chevy+disc+eci
I'm pretty sure that set up Speedway sells is indeed for the chevy spindles, but for the chevy spindles being used on, like, and I beam axle. Something about it won't let it fit on the actual chevy I remember someone saying (prolly won't clear the a-arms or something I guess). Bilko and I are real happy with our ECI set-ups. Hey Bilko! Two threads in a row I've seen you on. Hope you're having a great week!
