so upon closer inspection i have come to realize that the two mounting tabs on the transmission case (top side) have broke off at some point in time someone atempted to weld them. Well on clean up one broke off.

Now the plans are to weld them back on. Has anyone ever attempted this or am i better off getting another case? Should i modify by using steel plate and welding that to the cast iron case? making the case bigger, but adding strength

Has to be tig welded. If you have a weld shop near you they can do it.

What was used to weld it the first time ?? If it has any brass in the joint then all of the brass has to be removed before another attempt, or, empty the case and use brass again. Only do it right this time.

  6. I think you are going to have to completely disassemble and clean it before any welding, right? Might want to consider a new case.

already disassembled i was in process of rebuilding it.

would heating up the case to a certain temperature and then arc welding using nickel rod work? My dad believes that is the way to weld up cast iron. He is the expert welder :) (cept didnt learn, but from ol' timers)

a new case is an option but are hard to find and can get pricey.

Duh I thought it was aluminum..................Nickle rod works good on cast as long as you get the base metal preheated enuff.

  10. I'm no authority on welding cast iron but I believe that you need to preheat it and then let it cool slowly.

Try Brewer's or Jaime Passon for new parts.

well i cant say enough about jamie ... i screwed up when i ordered the neccessary components.. he caught my mess up and got it all corrected even before i realized what i did wrong. i am still waiting for hte parts but i ordered them on thursday and he was on his way out the door. i thought i ordered a set of retaining clips and a set of keys, but i only ordered one of each. He thought it was odd and called my butt up to verify if i was really stupid ... or just pretending to be stupid :)
