for the uss coral sea , it was ham and cheese ....or , cheese and ham depending on which day it was . and hot pineapple juice . i was fed ham , morning , noon , and night. to this day i would rather eat dryer lint mixed with toothpaste than eat a piece of ham.

While on the Viet Nam cruise we once had chicken for 10 days straight. Chicken and eggs for breakfast, chicken salad sandwichs for lunch, and fried chicken for supper. It was years before I could order chicken and my wife knew not to serve it at home.

Damn...USS Navarro brings back memories. Lived aboard it when I got to Vietnam in '66. Took a mike boat in to Danang (White Elephant) every morning, back to the Navarro at night (when we weren't whoring around). Lived on either ham sandwiches or roast beef sandwiches for three months before we got C-ration. Even those tasted good then...well, all except Eggs and Ham, Chopped.

I spent most of my tour at Moffet Field in the bay area of Ca..In the background you can see the world's largest blimp hanger. I use to spend 12 hours a day in one of these planes (P-3). I had to show up three hours early to preflight it.

  29. I miss coming off of mid-watch and having ham and cheese sandwiches on hot, fresh bread.
Fixing the cooks cars had it's perks.

    Dec. 1963 - Nov. '67 USN ...
    Boot San Diego ...
BT "A" school Great Lakes ...
    USS Dennis J. Buckley (DDR 808 - DD808) for 3 years ...
USS Norton Sound (AVM 1) ( world's only guided missle seaplane tender ! ) for 3 months ... then out.
MM's & BT's that rode a 2100 or 2250 tin can just out of yard overhaul - remember 120% "wartime emergency" full power trials ? Things get pretty exciting down below at 40 + knots ...
