Brain strain, werent they black with yellow raised letters? Thats the way I remember them, not sure that counts for anything though LMAO Ok so much for memory, just googled it, seems they were yellow background black raised letters, i googled California license plates, found a couple dealers in old plates, found some pics there, give it a try, the yellow might have been safety yellow, hard to tell with computer monitors though

    those were '63-'69 plates.
'56-'62 were Yellow with Black letters/numbers.
Not sure of the color code...(mine were already re-painted when I bought them)

the only way I could think of would be to take some REAL nice ones to the paint store and have them match them up.

  8. Odd, years and colors are just backwards of Texas plates from that era. Here '55 is yellow background, with letters and numbers black...maybe by design to limit confusion?

"Caterpillar Yellow" .... wonder if that's the same yellow for the letters/numbers on a 52 plate??

anyone on the 1951 to 55 Cal Yellow/Gold on the numbers & letters think the Ace paint will be close? I have and choice original 56 plate for color comparison. i was after a few 47 Cal plate for my 50 Olds finally got a 50 silver tag off ebay, after missing out on the 47 plates i'm going with a 41 black plate & putting the 50 tag on it just looks better right or wrong it's just for show and photos
