I gotta buy a scanner.....I drove from Rhode Island to AZ, bought a '65 330 powered, 2 speed cutlass, and drove back about 8-9 years ago. Rte 66 was a weird little road in parts of New Mexico if I remember right. sometimes we would get by passed to rte 40....anyway, I really remember the "street scene" at night in Oklahoma city, OK. Lots of hot rods, muscle cars and pickups (Modified) Nothing like we see in New England. A trip I'll never forget.....I didnt drive the whole mother road, but I drove a good portion of it ....... awesome memories!

Well damn, now you've gone and made me do the photobucket thing. Hope this works.

These are from our trip back to Cal from Lawton OK in 2002.

Stretch from Seligman to Kingman, by way of Peach Springs, is a pretty drive. Takes only a little longer than jamming along I-40 (which is also a pretty drive, but has more traffic). An excellent roadster adventure.

Great Thread! Spent the last two hours reading the words and looking at the photos, remembering the good times. Been on Rt 66 in all parts except NM, going to do that this winter. Only trouble is the 2000 mile ride to get there, but well worth it!

    Thanks for the memories.

My grandfather gave my folks some property along the old US66 near Rolla, MO, and the old title and abstract had stuff in it when the property was "taken" by the US Highway to expand US66, I suppose it was probably due to I44 construction. And it could have been old enough that it was to creat US66. So I've been on parts of it a few times.

Came to California via route 66 for good in the back seat of our brand new 64 Catalina. Route 66 (Foothill Blvd) ran through the town we moved to. Here is a pic of a drive-in resturant my uncle started and owned till the mid seventies. Was quite a local hot rod hoodlum hangout in the 50's & 60's

  13. I grew up on it!
I was born and raised in Upland, CA. Rt 66, called Foothill Blvd in Upland, runs straight through the middle of the city.

I drove my 66 Mustang on it every day back and forth to Upland High School, graduating in 01.

I still have the Mustang, and I live in San Diego now, but head back to Upland occasionally. I want to drive the whole thing in either my Mustang or my 51 Plymouth when I get it ready.

I found the car on Rikster's site and the original owner was Ralph Testa. I believe that was a different car than the one my friend bought.

  19. When I was in the US in 2005, I went to a diner on 66 in OKC. There was a '59 Caddy and a cop cruiser sunk into the concrete outside. Had my first meal in the US there... fried chicken steaks.... good heart attack food! :D Must've worked too.... I had one two years later.....
