Gotta love them old slicks, :D

Any old F-500s/Austins there? I've long been a admirer of the old Brit engineering.

IIRC, It's a Ferrari Ch***is with Alfa engines built by a pivate Ferrari team in the mid 30s and I believe Nuvolari drove it at one time. There was a You Tube video of it running some time back.

I heard it run on Saturday and it sounded like Thunder! Some thing broke in the drive train!I was told by a friend of mine who was at the event, that cars will come to this event from the Donington collection as it is nearer that Goodwood.I think they are affraid they might get damaged in transit.Goodwood is the other end of the country from this event. Some of these cars are PRICELESS!I think the Bi-Motor is from that collection(Donington).

Before I die I hope to make it to Goodwood (and the Isle of Man TT:))

Did a little more research on the Ferrari/Alfa:.....

As an entirely Scuderia Ferrari venture, two Bi-Motore Alfa Romeos were built in less than four months at Modena in 1935, designed by Luigi Bazzi, and intended for formula libre races on very fast tracks and for record breaking. These cars each had a lengthened P3 ch***is, with one P3 engine in the normal place, and the other in the tail behind the driver, who sat on top of three speed gearbox between the engines. front suspension was Dubonnet, the rear axle was jointed in the middle and located by the radius rods, with semi-elliptic springs. One car built for Nuvolari had two 3.2 litre engines and the other built for Chiron had two 2.9 litre engines.

Rootie Kazoootie,I have to say to you, you must go to both of those events!I haven't been to the TT since 2003 when David Jeffries died.I was Marshalling further round the course and felt sick, when he and Jim Moodie did not appear when they should have. But on a lighter note I plan on going back in 2010,I hope to go on my ''A''.I do miss not going!

That would explain the Ferrari badge on the front of the car!I think Enzo used to drive for Alfa before he started his own racing venture.

    Hi all,

Sorry just to clear up a few of the details:
****** Mary has 2 ex Brough Superior 1 litre V-twin Jap engines in it. The car was built by Richard and John Bolster in the 1920's when they were teenagers. Richard went on to build many other specials after deaming the car to be too dangerous and uncontrollable! John sucessfully developed the car through the years. The ch***is is basically three beams of Ash making up two "coffin" shaped compartments, one for the engines and one for the driver. The engines are connected together through a chain drive system to a motor cycle gearbox to a solid chain driven rear axle. Believe it or not John built another car which had 4 V-twin Jap engines in it. This car was very difficult to control and was not any faster than the original Mary. John therefore dismantled the car and put the two original engines back in the car and campaigned the car during the post war era.
I actually had the honour of push starting "Mary" at the Brooklands centenery which always brings a smile to my face! :)
If you want more information about the car there is a Profile Publication Booklet all about its development.

The other car is a special that has been recently (2-3years old) built by a VSCC member called Richard Scaldwell. The engine is actually a V8 aircooled JAP. Not many of these engines were built and their initial application is unknown to me. You should be able to find some pictures of the engine by going to flickr and searching "VSCC JAP".

    Awesome!

    I love that Car...

If I could own a Super Saloon from those days, that one would be very high on my list.

Others would be the Berpop ( I heard it disappeared )

The Peter Day 500 ( I spent a couple of years trying to track it down, about 20Yrs ago )

I have to agree with you on that one.If like the Super Van. A couple of years ago at the Festival of speed,me and a friend were walking around one of the pit areas when we spy a Ford Transit van(a lot newer than Super van1)Didn't give it a thought, just a dirty white van complete with ladder rack, sign writting and junk food w****rs on the dash!Until I noticed the wheels. They looked kinda familiar Jaguar XK220 wheels!
Now I take notice of it.Peered in through the door windows and saw some kind of race type shifter.Looked in the back and saw a large bump in the floor. It had full Jaguar XK220 running gear!I saw it go up the hill later in the day,boy it could shift!Turns out that Jaguar themselves had built it as a test bed for the XK220 running gear. They could drive the van outta the works gate and nobody would guess what secrets lay inside.I never seen it again, but one of the salesmen in work knows the hap that own it.I think he uses it most day and his Brother carries his band stuff around in it!
