We had one hell of a weekend of fun at the Hot Rod Hayride, that really is an event you shouldn´t miss . But we didn´t have less fun getting there... I saddled up and left home early on Thursday morning to pick up my friend Alex in Nürnberg. I really love cruising Bvarian back roads on early morning On the autobahn heading north to Nürnberg Alex unfortunately couldn´t go in his hemi powered 27 roadster cause he had some bad luck going home from the A-Bombers meet in Sweden last Sunday. The waterpump broke and the fan ate a good chunk of the radiator. So he rode shotgun in my 34 and did a real good job drinking beer and reading the map.
We went north west to Frankfurt, Cologne, Aachen and by noon we hit some rain near Liége... a few miles after this pic we ran out of gas and literally coasted into the next gas station hahaha , we only had to push about 2 feet forward to reach the pump Shortly west of Brussels the weather cleared up and I was back in the fast lane, the windows all cranked down so we could listen to the roar of the engine @ 4000 rpm and 110mph thrown back by the concrete wall! I could do that all day long! Alex liked it too I guess After 680 miles (about 1100km) of extensive speeding and fun we finally arrived at the port of Dunkerque/ France at 3.30pm and got on the ferry by 5pm.
I saw your sedan there, really looked fantastic. Can we have the history when you're done with the write-up?
It took me a few miles to get used to driving on the other side, but after a while I knew where to drive and where not, hahaha Alex was still taking care of maps and beer ... I´m kinda surprised we only got lost once, but I guess that wasn´t due to the maps... So after about another 150 miles and the most expensive tank stop in my life ( holy ****, I won´t ever again complain about gas prices here in Germany, you folks over there really dedicated driving your Hot Rods!!!) we left the Motorway at exit Woking and arrived at the Bisley Shooting Range on Thursday night. We had a few beers ( yes,now it was my turn) that night with Chris + Mary-Ann from Haters UK in Ipswich, Silke, Chris ,Olli, Arne, Klaus and Mike from Haters CC and Draggers CC .We had loads of fun !
Friday morning we were watching the arriving cars, I didn´t know were to look first! Even the location area up to the local gun smith shop was a sight by itself!Awesome! I don´t have to stretch that we had a great party each and every night until we headed home on Sunday at about 11 a.m and arrived home on early monday morning at 4a.m.... Damn, what a weekend! I can´t wait for next year! Here are some of my pics Chris On Friday morning everything was still fine with this outstanding roadster I was drooling all over this deuce, I apologize... We tried to hide from the rainstorm a the race track squeezing 7 guys into 1 toilet... was fun though
This guy could drive I suggest Mary-Ann and Olli ought to swap out their "Haters" T-shirts for "Lovers" ones, hahahaha That one hurt too see, but respect to the driver owner, I had never expected a car like that at a dirt track race , wow, that guy definitly had some fun!
Of course, what would you like to know? It´s a 34 Plymouth, I got from my friend and Hep Demons Clubmate Rainer from Vienna, Austria. It came to Austria most likely from th US in 1953 and still has the original paperwork. Rainer did the body, painted the car and had Toxic Tom do the flames and pinstriping .When I got the car 4 years ago I pulled the body of the frame, redid the ch***is, steering, trans, wiring, engine to make it reliable and rebuilt the front end, which is a stock IFS . It´s still a project in progress. The next step would be to repaint it but that can wait. I rather drive the wheels off of it, hahaha
Great pics and nice write-up Chris, looks like a definite go-to event. And i'm drooling over that gold 32 as well.
It's one of those cars that makes you go "no, do not repaint it!" I like the way it looks slightly different to the Fords, love the worn gold leaf flames and wish I'd noticed the front end, didn't know they had an independent front end.
Are you sure you didn't have "Hotrodladycruzr" along, because you sure did an excellent job, sharing your roadtrip with us. Thank You.
Excellent trip , thanks for sharing ! Glad you enjoyed yourselves over here , had a look round the C'dan myself and I'd second Jonny's comment , don't paint it !!! You weren't the guys handing out minitures of St Huertus-tropfen on Friday night were you ? It made an interesting mixer for my beer
Really a cool trip!! And you allowed us to take the trip with you from our chair!! Good luck gettin the Hemi rod back together. Greetings from central U.S.A.-Sololobo
