Is it safe to remove a couple of leafs out of the back of my 51 chev? The 49-54 leaf springs are pretty narrow, and probably not the strongest. Anyone here take a few leafs out of their 49-54 chev? Would I be better off taking the springs to spring shop and having them reverse the eyes? Right now I have 3 inch blocks but still has the stance of a farm truck.
Would be better to buy lowering springs. But if you're easy on the gas pedal it might be okay, or add some traction bars to them after you're done.
As long as you still have the torque tube, you'll probably be OK. If you ever ditch the tube, you'll have to replace the springs anyway.
Yeah I did a search and while there was a lot of good info, I didnt really find out if it was safe to do on the chevy's narrow springs. Thanks though
You can ditch the torque tube and use the stock springs. I know several people who have done it on various torque tube vehicles, including 49-52 Chevs......
I have a S-10 rear end in my 51, my leafs seem week cause they are so skinny and 57 years old thought about traction bars and blocks when I go for a drop. Sound safe and or right...
