I have your tires on 2 of my cars. one has the Coker Cl***ic Radials, the other your Firestone WWW Cheater slicks. Don't worry, yes, I like them. But here's what I want: I want WWW radials that don't have tread and sidewalls that look so cheap and "1980's" Can you get rid of the lines and tone down the writing on the black part of the sidewall? Can radials be designed to look more traditional? Would it kill you to throw some piecrust on 'em? I really like my 8.20-15 Firestones cheater slicks. I've had 'em for a couple of months and love 'em. I'd like some for the back of my F-100 but with tread on em. You'd sell a bunch of them with these good looks and making them a little more daily-driver friendly.
I want some/lots of US ROYAL MASTERS! 60's style with the thin WW recessed in the piecrusts, like on Cushenbery's Matador, and the '59 Chevy he made for Tony Cardoza.
How about a 560-15 firestone deluxe champion front in a tread pattern that matches the 820-15 rears, or vice-versa.
why are slicks so small? The majority of the nostalgia slicks are 28" tall. I want a 33" tall slick 6" or 8" wide. I am probably going to run Hoosier's or ET Drags and those are too wide. .
Let me state that I buy most of my tires from Coker and love them. If you want WWW radials without the lettering (smooth side walls), try the Whitewall Candy Store. http://whitewallcandystore.com
Amen - owning two sets of the above on different steel wheels - it sure woul be cool to have the fronts match the pie-crust back tires. Man, you nailed exactly what I was thinkin' - dreamin' ! Scott
If you look at the way radials are constructed compared to bias ply you will see why they look and act different.
How about a short run of the BF Goodrich Truck T/A tires in the 315 R70/15? They're about 32" tall by 12" wide and look perfect on the back of '60's style hiboys.
The actual website for the Whitewall Candy Store is www.whitewalltires.com and it is now under new ownership. whitewallcandystore.com is a clone of the first website.
I would be happy if I could just get a pair of Michelin 145 R 15 XZX radials that are in Coker's catalog, but they never have! The cheap chink 145's make me sick.
You can actually do that yourself. You can sand the lettering and the lines right off of the sidewall with a DA and some 80 grit paper. The guys who make their own wide whites do this all the time. Practice on an old tire first. I'm sure Coker has to have a lot of that info printed on the tire and probably in certain sizes legally, but there's no reason you couldn't take it right off of the tire. Even cheapie blackwalls from the local tire store look much better with a sanded and smoothed sidwall. The modern looking lettering kills the look.
The Whitewall Candy Store and Diamond Back carry smoothy black wall radials as well. Much safer then do it yourself versions.
Dean...we would love to get Michelin to make some of the dang 145R15 tires but have not been successful yet. We have a bunch of them on order but Michelin is a huge company that has production capacity issues often and only does our smaller production stuff when they can. How about some of the 145R15 Firestone F560's? Best... Corky
Outstanding........two threads and the owner of the company responds. And I was one who ragged on Coker w/o any real reason.......I am older and smarter now. Thanks CC
