I came across this photo from a "blog" the other day and it was listed as a Miller with a lion on the wall of death. Just wondering if it was a Miller? Chris The blog.......caution if you click at work or on dial-up......very picture heavy.....and kinda' biker gals'. http://4qconditioning.blogspot.com/
Great pic! It is not a Miller car, but it could have a Miller engine. This pic is, no doubt some sort of a Gilmore Oil Co. promo stunt. Earl Gilmore was a first rate showman. Gilmore Oil Co. marketed gasoline in Calif. in the 30s and 40s. His premium grade was called Gilmore Red Lion and their regular grade was called Gilmore Blu-Green. Earl did many PR stunts involving real live lions. Gilmore Oil Co. sold out to Socony Oil Co.(Standard Oil Co. of New York) in the late 40s
I ran across it at the "4Q" site from above this past weekend.......and thought WOW.....I remember seeing the "Wall of Death" when I was a chump kid at a car show........and I thought I could do that......hahaha Chris Nelson Kansas
Cool pic, thanks for sharing. I wouldn't want an accident with Kitty Kat on board. Great looking jalopy, and I'm liking the cycle too.
just like the romans did the lions eat the losers or first bloodied victims ... ok now "you get" the lion to sit still for a the camera ... i believe that this lion eventually became clarence the " crossed eyed " lion on tv...
I, also, loved the "Wall of Death", at the county fair, when I was a kid. A trip to the state fair, made me realize that the "Wall of Death" was for wimps, when I saw my first "Sphere of Death"! http://www.flickr.com/photos/pchenli/88998733/ ------
WOW! this site shows the "lion in the side car act" was done in England, not Calif, like I thought.. Thanks for the info. I would have bet the farm that it was a Gilmore stunt. I would have lost the farm.......
