1950's or 1960's Gas powered TIN LIZZY

Discussion in 'The Hokey Ass Message Board' started by A31ModelA, Jan 31, 2007.

  1. HeyEveryone. I have a Really old Tin Lizzy Go Cart with a newer B&S Engine on it. It has throttle controls on the steering column, and also has hand brake and engaging controls on the side of it. Does anyone have any info on these? I am going to attach a couple of pics.
    Thanks in advance..

I have one. My dad may have info at his house. Let me see.

  3. Thanks Roothawg I can not find much useful info, other than some dude from Ebay wanting $120 bucks for each wheel. Although it was machined aluminum.

Hmm, I recall seeing these things being driven around by Shriners somewhere, collecting donations. I was a kid -- I'm pretty sure this was in San Diego, somewhere along the bay.

  6. I remember "driving" some as a kid, around 10-12 years old. I say "driving" because although the cars themselves could go anywhere, they were on a "track" that kept them captive, bumping off the sides, etc. I think it was Cedar Point, but I'm not sure. They were fun though.;)

  8. I have found stuff from way back when, and even have driven and riden in a few and have driven the one I have, but I need a wheel for it. Some one had put in a tube that was tooo big, folded it in half, and I went to put air in it, and it blew the rim apart. I am glad I had 2 shirts on because some of the plastic/fiber splinters went through both shirts, and into my skin. I was hoping to find a source for restoration parts as I want to put workin lights and all on it. I will wire it myself, and make working headlights and driving lights, and brake lights etc. I am even thinking of making a Lexan windshield for it.

I own one of these, my father bought it for my brother and I when we were younger. The maufacturer is crue-cut. the model is the tp-10 torpedo. I have a parts list, but also I am having a hard time finding parts, It needs a new wheel, we want to fix that and sell it.

  10. A buddy of mine is helping to liquidate a local "car guy's" estate for the widow. There is one of these available for $500 (firm). Decent condition, but could probably use a new set of tires due to dryrot. Black with red wheels and upolstery. Call Rick @ 304-389-5781 for more info.

The four of us kids got one from "Santa" in I think 1967. It did have wood spoke wheels. We did doughnuts in the dirt, and used to break the spokes out of the wheels. The first replacement wheels were wood, later on, all you could get were the aluminum wheels. Our's is still sitting in my Dad's garage.

In about 1959, the drugstore by my house in East Dallas had a drawing for one of those, one chance for each purchase. I did my best to stuff the entry box with penny candy purchases and anything else that I could convince my parents to buy at the drugstore instead of somewhere else, but did not win it. I remember it had wooden wheels.

One of my childhood buddies won one of those back in the mid 60s. Seems like the local grocer gave it away. It had wood spoke wheels and was a blast to drive around. We got in trouble for driving it to school in the fourth grade. He only lived a block from school and we probably wouldn't have gotten in trouble except he tried to drive it around the playground chasing a girl he liked.

I "drove" those old "Model T"s at Cedar Point many times as a kid. If I recall correctly, they were bigger than this little kart, but they were still powered by little one-lunger B&S-type engines.

Those were sold in Ga. by an outfit named Hagstrom Sales in Lawrenceville. I have no idea if they are still in business.

That Rat Rod belongs on the Ol Skool Rodz site because it has 3 different wheels!:D
I couldnt resist. Looks like busting spokes was a common thing for those.

Yup, mine looked the same. I like the the solid drag rim.. lol I blew the wooded spokes out of my front wheels from hitting hard turns with it. back in the early 80's I remember my dad ordering replacement spokes. Is therre any further info on these or a place to get any parts? or a web site about them? I have an original catalog from Crue-Cut Man.Co.

Where on ebay would you even look for these? I still have the original motor and everything for mine. The fibergl*** fenderes are a bit banged up though..

I was born in Ohio and one of my earliest memories was when we would go to kings island there were these old model A's and T's on a little track that had a guide rail that you would "drive" them on they of course were not real fords but they were to size and steel I think they had a 5hp engine in them really cool when your 6 or 7. This just kinda flashed me back to then.

I see them sell on eBay about every other month. Most of the time black like the ones pictured but I have seen them yellow or red with Coca Cola on them.

I had one of these when I was 10. It was a towtruck that my father bought for me from Hagstrom's in Georgia. I sold it in my teans but found it and bought it back a few years ago.

I am currently restoring it for my kids. I can send you some pics if I can figure out how to attach them.
