Anyone who could help me out with this I would GREATLY appreciate it. Have a 64 1/2 Galaxie 500 XL, Having problems with brake lights, directionals. The car also has the slide-a-side steering column. The entire car seems to be untouched wiring-wise except for big feet getting hooked up in the wiring under the dash a few times maybe. Where the run of wires comes down the steering column they all have spade connectors that seperately insert into two seperate plastic plugs. Eight wires. Actually only seven, one is the horn and is correctly hooked up. Five of the eight wires match color In&Out of the connector, but do NOT function anything when connected matched up. I've had them so many different ways, but obviously NOT found the right combination yet. Does anyone have a wiring schematic of this particular connection area or a link to one? I have checked ALL connections and power tested them directly at the light. Checked each wire for continuity and any possible bare spots. I'm not a total moron and usually have no problems with wiring, but I'm outta luck with this one. A quick description or wiring diagram would be awesome if someone has the know how. Thanks in advance.....
Check your grounds first, also heres the wiring http://www.oldcarmanualproject.com/tOCMP/wiring/5765wiring%20diagrams/Ford/MWire5765-225.jpg http://www.oldcarmanualproject.com/tOCMP/wiring/5765wiring diagrams/Ford/MWire5765-224.jpg
Thank you for those two links but I've already been to them. They are however the only ones I could find at all. On the bottom link "left page" the area behind the "direction signal switch" is where my issues are. Those two white blocks on the schematic. With 3 wires across each plug and one atop each. One being "L" shaped and one being "T" shaped. So placement of wires according to the schematic is kinda not possible, unless I just am missing something. The schematic in the link just shows them as flat and also does not show the color of the wires coming out that run up the column to the switch. they are different then what runs into it. Oh.... I checked all the grounds too...was the very first thing I did
I do not have a schematic for you right now, but I have a tool which is called a Power Probe. (yeah yeah for the pervs) basically it hooks to a battery, and it gives 12 volts to whatever wire you touch it to. It has a safety breaker in case of a short. So you give 12v at one end, and you can trace it through the harness until you get voltage. It comes in handy, most tool trucks have them, and I'm sure by now they are readily available online.
Pretty much already done the same thing with a straight wire to the battery, but it's inneffective because for everything to work properly it seems they must ALL be hooked up. (except for the horn) As some things feed back through the directional switch itself I think. About ready to just buy an external column directional box and wire the brake lights direct.....
