got all the metal stripped and the patch panels on the fenders to replace the rot and all the brackets fabbed for the core support and fender braces
thanks - the body work (actually stripping the panels and all the crap on the underside of the fenders) has taken me longer than planned - but almost to the point of skimcoat and primer I think - where the fenders mount to the cowl and the lower section just behind the wheels were rotted badly on both sides and the brackets were toast, so I wanted to mount it all and see it for motivation before dissambling completely again to finish the panel work - need to finish welding my motor mounts in and the the chassis/suspension can be final assembled/aligned, and then int on to drivetrain which im really looking forward to heres a pic of the rear suspension and z-work I did to the frame (started out as a 1ton long bed) sketching out some designs for a stakebed too crappy pic, but ill post some clearer ones tonight from home
I'll have to go get pics of my buddy Rich's truck. His is sectioned 4", chopped 4, and channelled over the width of a 79 Malibu frame.
thanks guys - the front end will probably come up a little bit before all said and done, but should still be quite low for no airbags itll be running a 360 with dual quad tunnel ram - i have a powerglide case with an adapter that i can put behind it, but am probably going to mod a 727 i have with manual valvebody since id like it to have a little better offline get up and go for the chop - I took a little over 6 inches out and didnt need to channel at all since the way the cab lays over the frame already - the frame i took out 18 inches and used the cutout sections for the z will add some more pics soon - and hell yea - add your guys too!
Great looking rig. How tough was the chop? I have a 50 dodge and am itching to do the same. Did you section the roof and add extensions or did you change the angle on the front pillars? I can't tell from the pics.
Chop looks good...nice stance...can't wait to see the finished product...I love the old mopar trucks...have had a few and currently have a 54 panel...interested in seeing how your stakebed turns out...I have a '37 international that I am just starting on and considering a similar treatment
thanks for the comments guys - shes comin along, albeit slow - im mopar or no car (cant ya tell) and have always been - IMO motorvation in a mopar should always stay mopar - nothin wrong at all with chevys and fords, but anyway, not tryin to get into that debate - its got a 9inch rear, and i was planning to put a PG behind the motor originally, but I just think the 727 will be better off the line with a tall 1st gear. the chop was my first - all in all not too difficult - the roof was split and filled - front pillar remained same angle - have plenty of pics of that if you want to see, pm me. Ive gone back and forth with what to do behind the cab - pretty sure ive decided on stakebed, should be different - will definitly keep pics of progress going thanks again guys
nice dodge man... i got a 53 with a 50 front end on it. post up some pics of the chop if you would... how much chop is it? thanks
wow 6 inches...doesnt look like it. i wanna chop mine 3in and i thought that was a lot for this truck. might have to re-think that.
pretty sure it was 6, theyre tall cabs, maybe 5 - its been a bit since i did it, but I ended up takin more from the pillars than the back - We can clarify if you give me a measurement of height of your rear window - ill measure mine as well - to tellyou for sure what I cutout - still lookin for the rest of my pics and I will post, havent forgotten about ya
ya ill pm you my measurement so we can compare them, because how ever much you took out looks awesome....
cool let me know - be glad to help thanks - its actually the lone gray - the others are pc'd red, but I think I am putting this set of tires up for sale after I get the 4th one done - I want black, plus I think im changing the front rim/tire size
sorta goin backwards here - but a few have asked for in process pics of the chop and chassis first the chop: bracing the cab and outlining first cut first cut/top off marking bottom cut
