So can i swap the gear in the turtle,i think it is for a 4.11 ratio rear to a gear for a 3.78 rear? i have a gear for the 3.78 but it looks smaller in diameter, will this mesh into the driveshaft gear ok? How does the turtle ***embly come apart? do i pop out the plug in the end and the shaft comes out that way.
    Thanks Randy

The turtles are different heigths so the different size gears will mesh. You don't switch gears in them. Just get the right ***embly. I believe the 19 tooth ***y is right for a 3.78

Some of them even have the number ( 19 ) and the gears ( 9 pinion 34 ring ) on the the turtle :) for a 3.78

See them on eBay all the time

    HINT / HINT :D

Where is "Jersey Shore"?? I'm up near Morristown, NJ and could probably give you a 3.78 ***embly. 3.78 and 4.11 ones are very common, others a bit scarce. Be aware that tire size also matters (there's a chart in the parts catalog); gigantic rear tires might bump you to a different cog there.

    I looked for 6 months before I found a decent 18 turtle. Found one in a 47/48 Mercury :)

Brattons is now repro'ing the 3.54 gears and housings. Axle location is different with each gear to maintain mesh...I think an 18 will function in the common 19 housing, and is now available. Don't have chart with me, and FAR too lazy to do the math, but likely many 3.78 rods have enough tire to need the 18...

That's the situation I was in. The correct 19 for the 3.78 gear was not right for the tire combination I was running. I needed the 18.

I bought a NOS Ford speedometer from Dennis Carpenter and a new cable and I wanted the speedometer to be dead on ... not just close enough.
