THIS EVENT HAS BEEN CANCELED DUE TO POOR ECONOMY AND LACK OF COMMERCIAL SPONSORS TO PROVIDE NEEDED FUNDING TO PRODUCE AND PROMOTE THE EVENT. OK, all our Georgia and neighboring traditional Hot Rod buddies, listen up Brad & I have taken on the challenge to host an invitational, old timey, indoor, 1960's style car show with 100% of the vehicles on display traditional rods, customs, drag cars, Bonneville racers, and motorcycles. No vehicles after 1965. No billet. No electronics. No digital. No 20's with rubber bands. No neon under the running boards. The show will be held in a fabulous 20,000 sq.ft. building at the Gwinnett County Georgia Fairgrounds on the weekend of March 21-22, 2009. In addition to the show, we will have both indoor and outdoor vendors and swap meet sellers. This is going to be one dynamite event. We will have reserved parking for all the traditional cars driven to the show by spectators. At this point we are looking for the best group of 80 traditional vehicles to accept our invitation to participate. Chopped & channeled coupes. Hi Boy roadsters, Kustom Mercs & Chebbies, flathead rails & Henry-J G***ers, '32 Ford Bonneville roadsters and everything else that screams traditional. We will select as wide a variety of vehicles as possible to make this show the best we can. Vehicles do not have to be 1000 point perfect show cars. We would actually rather have legit, period correct cars, with a little patina, that were built back in the day, or were finished last week. BUT, built with vintage styling and components. We're gambling that the car crazy world will want to come see these cars, as much as we love building and owning them. Please e-mail either of us, with a description and a photo, if you would like to be a part of this nostalgic themed event. Rich Venza richvenza@charter.net Brad O**** brad56@alltel.net
I commend you for taking on a task of this magnatude. You've only got 7 months to pull this all together. That's really not a lot of time, IMHO. Anyway, I hope you can do it. Sounds like a great event in the making. Good luck and keep us posted as to the progress. Don't know if you made it to the Jalopyrama in Glen Burnie, MD. before you headed south for retirement. It's in the same vein (indoor show, invitation only inside for 30 or so cars on the wooden floor of an old armory, vendors and other cars outside.) Takes place again this Nov (as far as I know). You might want to try and come north to check it out for inspiration....Don.
i have removed the side pipes and got new rims, the rearwheel studs are 5/8 so it wasn't easy to find replacements. there are usually a hundred cars or more at the dawsonville cruise in. i dont think you will have a hard time finding 80. a friend of mine has a 32 ford roadster do***ented built in 1958. its shiney and everything. i am sure he would like to attend.
Everyone who wants to submit an entry is more than welcome to do so. As it is an invitational show we do reserve the right to only include the best of the best, and hope we don't piss off anyone. We have already accepted an all steel '40 Willys g***er with a blown Olds from Missouri, so I guess that proves we will welcome one and all. I only put Georgia in the text because of the super high fuel costs and figured folks from a distance would choose to stay home. But, if you have a traditional vehicle that fits our criteria, send me a photo and we'll see how we can work it into the show.
Hey folks, This has the potential to really be a top notch event for us hot rodders here in the East. I think we should try to talk it up and support it. Don't know if Rich and crew are considering making it an annual thing or not, guess that would all depend on how well attended it turns out to be. Hope it is a huge success. We need more "destination" shows like this that aren't in California or Texas (no disrespect intended). It just seems that all too often the really great functions like this are too far away for us "right coast" attendees.....Don.
As Rich said, it's open to anyone who wants to bring their car to display or their feet to walk around! I'm working on lining up a host hotel too. Nostalgia-style dragsters, customs, hot rods...no stock muscle cars, no radial tires, no pastel paint, no Pro anything. Cut-off for cars and trucks is just like the HAMB-- 1964 (unless the body style remained the same a couple years later, like '60-'66 Chevy trucks, etc). Cut-off for race cars is early '70s, but they must be restored original style cars (who doesn't appreciate a restored '67 Camaro funny car?!). Got a nicely restored drag boat or ski boat? We'd like to see that, too. Just pull a car out of a barn? Don't bother blowing the dust off it...bring it to the show to display, as-is. Got something nostalgic under construction? Get it on tires and roll it in for display. There's something very refreshing about looking at under-construction vehicles. Wouldn't it be cool to look at a traditionally build '32 Ch***is without the body on it? There will also be an area inside for pinstripers and sign painters to display their art, with donated pieces being auctioned off for charity. (Half the proceeds to a charity, half back to the artist) We're setting this up with the thought that it will be annual. -Brad
im in full support of this and its got the potential to be a great show , right now my truck is not ready but excluding my job , i would love to ride over and make the show.. hotlanta aint all that far!
I just returned from a Swap Meet & Car Show in Clarkesville, GA. Everyone I spoke to was very excited to hear about our Traditional Show & Swap. I took some photos of the type of Hot Rods we would like to have in the show. At this time, since we haven't printed our entry form, non of these cars are locked into the show. I'm including them to show that we will be interested in primer, some patina, and really shiny. So as to not embarr*** some car owners, I didn't take photos of some horrible rat rods and some million dollar Street Rods. Oh, if I win the raffle on the flathead, we will make it part of the items auctioned off along with the pin striper's artwork.
This sounds like its going to be a great show. I'm just 10 miles from there, so let me know if you need any help.
Im in Atlanta so Im down with this. I see you take everything to 65...all those pics didnt look like you are getting out of the 30's. hahaha I'm marking on my calendar as we speak. Good luck with getting this thing going.
Has there been a requirements or guidlines doc published? I wonder if my bike would be invited? I'm not running radials if that makes a difference.
The way I read it is that there is a 80 car indoor invite only , as well as an open show for the outdoor side. Sounds simple enought to me
Are you going to have addvertisment to hand out ? If so i will hand them out at my shop , just mail me a stack !!! I think it sound like a cool show . I be glad to help.
Thanks for all the interest, comments and observations. We will have fliers closer to the date. If you do them to early, folks seem to file them, and forget 'em. The photos posted earlier were taken at one show earlier this fall. The reason we will be selecting traditional hot rods, customs, race cars and bikes is to be sure the show has a good cross section of everything. When we chose the date, we checked out the show dates from '08 and tried to stay away from other established events. With the crazy fuel costs and general ****py economy, we felt that a show 400 miles away would probably not be a problem. It was also the best date the fairgrounds were available. No fairgrounds...no show! As of today, only one owner we invited has indicated he is going to Florida.
