i recently bought some aluminum rims that need to be polished. whats is the best product to do the job and the best method. please post pics THANKS TM
Wow, picky, picky. It's hard to tell you whaty is tyhe best product without knowing what wheels you are talking about. Mags? Aluminum? Chrome? Polished? Machined?
You'll spend hours doing it with hand tools and regular polishes. Been there done that, and they'll look mediocre. Look in the phone book for metal polishing. I gotta guy out here that does a set of skinnies for about $60. When he's done, they look like chrome.
When Ansen Sprint wheels were made, they had an as-machined finish. You could restore that with abrasives. You can read a bit about your wheels and refinishing them here: http://www.roadsters.com/wheels/ Dave (602) 233-8400 http://www.roadsters.com/
no pics. sand the wheels with 240 wet or dry. - then go over them with 320 or 400. then i use 600 or ?? something fine. --- then get a white polish wheel on your die grinder & a pack of multi grade compound (black, white, gray, brown) read the back of the pack it'll tell you which compounds for aluminum. start polishing & you will get dirty but they will polish out nice! ---- you,ll need 2 polish wheels as you dont wanna mix your compounds on 1 wheel the wheels will never shine.
There's a fairly new product out there the trucker's use on their aluminum rims called "Purple". I hear it's the best.
