Been doing some searching online and around here and can't seem to find an ignition switch for my 53 chevy hard top? I need the switch body not the cylinder. One of the terminals (start terminal) on my housing is really loose and causing issues. I had an aftermarket switch but I will have to machine a piece or possibly weld something to the dash for a secure fix to the aftermarket switch not fitting correctly. PM me if you have one you can sell me or let me know of a supplier I can contact. Thanks in advance.

Thanks for the info, National Chevy, Patricks, cl***ics parts of america, or ebay no luck.
Jim Carters is going to get back with me.

my question is, b/c i've gotten a lot of different information,
What housing will work? A guy on ebay told me the book says 49-53 all work even buick and pontiac.
National Chevy said only 53 - 54 will work
other phone calls have yielded different info?

Anyone? The one in my dash is a 4 terminal housing

I just went to the parts store and got a universal switch with GM style keys. It has male spade connectors on the back that are labeled and the original 53 bezel screwed on it no problem. I dont have any part numbers...shouldnt be too hard to find though.

  8. Expensive for a stock replacement. Universal ones are cheaper, I went that route on our '53.

Well, I stumbled across a guy online that says he has a few. He only wanted $25 plus $5 shipping. He seems to have many parts cars of many different varieties. He said he will send it out on Monday. I'll let you know how it goes ... Here is a link if anyone else is needing parts. Thanks for the help.

Got the switch yesterday. Original and in good condition. The key does not work so I'll have to get with a locksmith so I can get the barrel out but other than that it was a good deal.
