I got a spare 239 for my Pontiac when I purchased it last year (he said it ran when they took it out). I'm in the process of converting the 3 spd to T5, and went to use the spare motor for setup purposes. When I tried to get the clutch off the flywheel I discovered the engine was siezed.
Long story short, I've got it freed up now and continuing with my setup.

I want to keep the spare, just in case I lose the one in the car, so what can I do when I'm finished with it to make sure it won't sieze again in storage ??

    Thanks

if i have an engine appart that i put grease on the cylinders ( wheel bearing grease)like 10 years ago and the cylinders havnt rusted any thars a little rust on the bolt holes... il have to chase them as rust has already started. I dont know but if you dont want to disaemble now i would suggest some tar thined with turpentine (hard to find)with some oil mixed with this concoction then spraying it into the cylinders through a brake line almost like undercoating!bent on the end 90 degrees.
I have heard of 90 weight axle oil ,or deisel cosmolene
being poured into the plug holes and the motor being rotated throu a few revoulutions and maybe tipped upside down .Creosote? who knows where thars a will thares a way. i have even painted cylinders when the motors apart keep in mind some of the mentioned ideas will require removal with solvents.. or outright disasembly and clearcoat is out of the question
    have fun and be inventive

  3. Fill the cylinders with oil if you wanted you could use a spray bomb of motorcycle chain lube or white grease. OldWolf

2-4 oz. of MMO each cylinder rotate engine 3-4 turns. replace plugs. Spray the hell out of the ports with WD40 . Use some of that aluminum tape to seal all ports and orfices. Try to store indoors without temp extrems.

I can't speak for the motor but When putting my alcohol carb up fpr the winter, flooding it inside and out with WD40 before bagging it up is good insurance. I have seen a product called fogging oil for motor storage but never tried it.

Thanks guys for the ideas - I soaked everything with WD40 for a couple of days to help free things up. I'll follow up with the ideas mentioned.

    Thanks again !!!!
