  5. Yup, I was there too (wearing a SoCal Roadster T-shirt). It was pretty spendy and you are right about the prices. I thought they were pretty insane. It actually made Ebay look reasonable! I bought some magazines too, Rodding and Restyling, Hot Rod Annuals, and others. I spent more than I should have but they are fun to read. About 200 miles roundtrip, and I had just found out about it that morning and it lasted until after 5:00 PM.
The guy had a huge amount of stuff: old cars, Gold Wing motorcycles, antique tractors, model cars, etc.

Black '32 5W $26,500 (went to Colorado Springs, CO with my friend Mike D., he said it was probably too much but the trip cost $1000 so he didn't want to go home empty after driving all night to get there!)
Black running '33 pickup $14000 (it actually had a '32 cab and firewall but was on a '33 frame with an unidentified box and rear fenders)
Turquoise '34 Pickup $4000 (with cracked patina paint went to St. James, MN.)
Red '34 Pickup Cab, Box, Fenders (also went to St. James, MN)
Red '34 Truck Cab and Chassis $2300
    Black '34 Truck Cab $2300
'29 Roadster Pickup and Box $3400 (I'm sure about that)
'36 slant back sedan (I missed that one)
    Deuce grill and shell $1000
    "34 Truck Grill Shells $350
'34 Ford Glove Box Radio $300
Mobiloil Lollypop sign $750 (maybe even more, and it was painted over part of it)
    Hot Rod Pedal Car $300
    Stromberg 97's $300-$225 each!!!
    One Navarro head $85

  6. if i think about it i'll remember your face from the magazine purchases..

yes i paid alot for the 2 grilles
but like your buddy ya have to make it worth the trip..

  7. I wish I would have worn a HAMB t-shirt so I could have met some Hambers but a guy at work told me about the auction at about 8:00 AM, so I got off work 4 hours early to get up there. I'm pretty sure I remember you if you bought the Deuce grill shell. Dont mind my comment about the prices, I'm just cheap (and I bought stuff when didn't cost as much some years ago!) I had a tan Midwest Deuce Club hat on too. I saw a bunch of guys I knew there. Funny, none of them called me to tell me about it!!

  8. I just thought who in the hell is going to go to look at the "33 coupe" they mis labeled AND TRACTORS...way the out in the middle of those corn fields .. gas prices other good shows going on ..

being sneaky just didn't help tho did it

hahah just think if we had tipped off the whole HAMB CROWD!

MAYBE WE COULD HAVE HAD SOME MEMBERS CAUSE A DISTRACTION AND WE'D HAVE SCORED BETTER..

  9. I thought the same thing when I saw the print out off the auction website saying it was a '33, because I saw it was a Deuce right away. My friend Dale J. from St. James said he had been trying to buy it for years but never could. I'll bet he has bought and sold a hundred Deuces the last 40 years!

  10. Lotsa hot rod stuff scattered about
we wer wunderin where that one navarro head came from " if it could only talk?"

What?! Thats crazy! The ones in the box? They look like cores. John

  12. I'd love to hear the story the old Deuce could tell too. I bid on the head until I saw my friend Denny S. from Spencer, IA was bidding on it, I told him I probably cost him another $20 or $30. The bidding was fast and furious there.

  13. That's what I remember, two went for $300 each and the last four for $225 (I thinK?) each. I could be off a little from what I remember (my memory sucks) but I'm pretty sure thats right. They looked pretty good but needed to be rebuilt.

wrong, the first 2 strombergs went for $200 each, the last 4 went for $90 each, i bought them.

the 29 rpu went for $3800, for sure, my buddy pat (skyspop on the hamb) bought it, it had mint box, and a pretty decent cab for whats out there, also came with a title, and some decent rear fenders, and a grille shell, and an extra (junk) driver door good for parts, ill post some pics of the rpu, ill probably be building it for Pat.

i think the 32 was a bit nicer than you described, i would have bought it for that, i came with 20K but that wasnt enough and i new it once i seen the car in person, i had a running b banger sitting at home waiting to go in it, i would have cleaned it up and driven it the way it was.

    it was fun

  16. TITUS? huh not enuf money? you too..
guess we shoulda thrown our piles together..

  17. I must have got my numbers mixed up on the carbs (old farts memory) so I guess that wasn't as bad as I thought they were.

The '32 was very nice, I was just describing the few pimples it had but they weren't anything serious at all. I was guessing it would have gone for 20K, so the 26.5K surprised me a bit, even knowing the three heavy hitters that were bidding on it. That's because I'm still used to the prices from 10-15 years ago! It still made me smile seeing what stuff goes for these days. There's going to be a lot more in the next 10-20 years, so save your money!

  22. TOM , you need to get out more, or check for auctions online...everyone knew about it!

as we pulled into town, i saw license plates from iowa, illionois , wisconsin , south dakota , and nebraska. when i was checking out the `32 5-window i saw the eventual high bidder (Mike D.) and i knew then it wouldn't be cheap. i saw a couple other high rollers bid on it too

i know Mike and i'm sure it is in good hands

while the overall prices were high , i did see some things go for cheap...that `40 front axle with round `40 spindles and later `46 hubs/drums ( the ones you need for Buick drums) for $35 is an example

me and the guys i was with did manage to buy a few small things

I was also at the auction , I live 10 miles from Delft and have known about these cars for many years. I know the man who owned them, through a mutual friend. I along with everbody else in the area has tried to buy them. He would not sell anything. My friend ,who has known Tex for many years remembers when he bought that 32 for $30 many years ago. He (my friend who is now 70) is still kicking himself for selling 2 32 Ford roadster bodies for $20 about the same time.

cool story, my dad had boughten a 40 ford chassis at the auction, we started looking at it and looked as though it was driven around as a chassis, the dash instert was still there, it was all wired up and all, we had loaded it up on the trailor and this old timer comes over and says " i remember driving around in that thing with Tex" it was his buddy from long ago and had driven around with him on the chassis! funny.
