Hey guys, Some Kiwi friends of mine are in Reno right now. What can they do there that is cool and hot roddy? Ideas welcome? Thanks, Greg
The museum is cool and along with powerful engines there is a good train museum in Carson City with a working steam locomotive. While they are in CC tell them to eat at Red's 395 and bring a meaty appetite. There is a dragstrip/road course in Ferndale, maybe they can beat on the rental car?? Do they like bowling? There is the National Bowling Stadium in downtown. I think that they can raft down the Truckee river as well. I was just there and the Truckee has plenty of water in it. I too vote for a visit to Virginia City and Tahoe.
Virginia City is a must and while you are in Carson City, the old mint has been turned into a cool museum.
Wait a minute...they are in reno right now....it's Bonneville speed week....rent a car and drive about 6 hours on hwy 80 towards Salt Lake City....stop at Wendover and watch Bonneville cars go fast ....I know thats what I would be doing !
It's been a few years since I've been out that way, but there were some awesome junk yards out side of Reno/Carson City areas.
Reno, that's the gas stop going to or coming back from Bonneville isn't it? By doing some straight through team driving they can catch the last couple of hours of racing today if they leave now. 400 miles and abut six hours they will be right in the big middle of some great hotrodding.
Last time I bothered to stop in Reno was over 30 years ago. My travel partner was barely 18 but gambled anyway and then we got tickets at Harrah's to take their tram to the museum and after gambling, she asked for a child's ticket, and got it! Anyway, the museum was like a parking garage but the cars were cool and I enjoyed seeing Roth's Beatnik Bandit parked right there in the middle of a row of Deusenbergs. I thought Harrah's collection got auctioned off when he died? So, according to some posters there's still a museum of sorts? Maybe I need to stop in Reno again some time. Also on that trip I saw and listened to Dick Dale playing in a small casino's free in view of and open to the sidewalk bar stage. In '77 he was just earning a living any way he could?
the car museum there has one of the few remaining cars that my great-great grandfathers built in the early 1900's....... the Frayer Miller. If you check it out, take some pics for me -scott noteboom
