    My fellow Arkansas Hambers have recommended that I get a Gennie Shifter...So far I think they are right! Just want to see what you guys in the world are using...and what exactly separates Gennie from Lokar...

    my 65 f100 has a 5.0 with a c6 auto trans....what works best for this or does it even matter?

    Lokars have a push button in the center. To use a normal shiftknob you have to use an adapter. Gennie you can use whatever you want. I had a gennie in my 56 and it worked great.

    Yeah, I have a Lokar and your shift knobs are limited because of the lock out button. Mooneyes has a couple custom knobs that work with Lokars. Still happy with my Lokar, way easy to install, and has been great.

    I don't mean to sound nasty, but this has been covered extensively several times. Did you run a search on the Gennie vs. Lokar debate? A lot of good info out there on the subject.

    Yeah, you know searchs are good. But thought I would ask anyway. none of those seemed to convince me one way or another. So, I ask the question... better than going out and buying something without knowing what your getting. Then wishing you had the other.

    Hoping maybe there is some new blood or people who recently purchased one.... anyone really with some VALUABLE input! Thanks any way... do you have an opinion one way or another about gennie or lokar?

    Heck I would even like so see some pics... I have seen some radical shifter knobs at some shows...so I know guys are proud of their stuff!

    I used the lokar nostalgia shifter in 40 ford it seems to fit that era shifter. The only problem I have with it is it oscillates because of the height but that would happen with a gennie of that height also.

    You did a search and couldn't find enough "VALUABLE input" to decide which shifter to buy? You're kidding right, or are you looking for one of the "new blood or people who recently purchased one" to buy one for you?:D

    Seriously, the search engine is excellant on this forum. These are what I came up with in a quick search...tons of good info, I hope they help.

    Don't sweat it dude. Search is your friend, but sometimes these questions need to be re-asked. Suppliers can change, new designs can suck, etc.. Not really with these two companies, but that's neither here nor there. Anyway, you have a pretty good idea now I'll wager. That's all that matters.

    Thanks, Yes I do...the scale is tipped pretty heavy towards the Gennie...
    I guess the question I really have....Is there a particular gennie that is best suited for
    a truck...like I dont really know what length is best for a truck..Ive seen some alot of these styles of shifters most of them are in cars and are usually higher than the dashboard! I assume its a preference. I noticed there is a s3 swan, ultra, lo stick, and rear mount... What is what? Which is the Preferred? I like the swan look. the s3 says it has posiloc...is that a something I want? or is it kinda like dreddybear said is that a design that sucks.

    I have used both and have had good luck with them. I have used them on C-4's and 350's but never on a c-6. As far as form and function they were both great, but I like the shiftknob capabilities of the Gennie which is why I prefer them now.

    You have seen the one in my car.. it is a rear-mount swan... the mount is going to depend mostly on where it comes through the floor i believe.. if you aren't doing anything come on out to the Sonic over by Lowe's at 6:30.. we have a Sonic cruise on the 3rd Tuesday of each month...

    Yeah, I liked yours don... Im leaning pretty heavy towards that look. Classic fordish. but cooler. I really like the gated action you showed me... you actually get to move the stick! Was yours the posiloc s3 swan?

    Thanks for the invite...not sure how cool it would be pulling up in my supercrew 4x4 though. Got to get the old 65 driving... Im headed to destin fl. for a week of vacation and when I get back Im going to hit it pretty hard. My warranty on my motor expires in feb. Even though the engine sounds strong and starts on the first spin... Id like to drive it for a few months to make sure nothing Pops or breaks..or leaks. Then Im highly considering taking it up to the school and letting the kids paint it....that will at least get me by for a couple years till im ready for the real stuff.

    Which car club is meeting at sonic?? toadsuck? if my wife doesnt have plans I might join ya.

    If I remember correctly the part number is 1004F4-3... just click on the Swan Rear Mount... there is one there for the C6 also...

    The Sonic cruise tonite isn't hosted by a car club, although several of them are represented there... it is mainly a night for car people in general to get together... go ahead and bring the supercrew... we won't harass you too much...

    I'm not usually one to beat a dead horse, but I just happen to be in the market for a shifter. Everyone seems to lean towards the Gennie, but the only thing I don't like about that is the lack of a gate, which leads me toward Lokar. Most of the complaints I've read about Lokar is the knob, but that is a simple fix with an adapter. Is the lack of a gate in the Gennie that big of a deal? I've never used either, so am relying on your personal experiences to make an informed decision. Too much money to not be happy with my purchase.

  18. The Gennie does have a gate, it works like a column shift gate but is on the floor.

    I would highly recomend the Gennie. I have one in my roadster and love it.

    I've had and installed for customers both of these. I had a 23" Gennie on a C6 in my 61 Effie with a built 460. Worked fine but couldn't run some tracks - no reverse lock out! Lokar have the positive button and with the new adapters out can run any shift knob. Other than those two things, I'd say personal preference.
    Oh yeah and one time when Crusin with my lady sitting in the middle she got a little frisky and knocked it out of gear, wouldn't have happened with the Lokar (luckily she didn't "Bite" when it surprised her)

    I have the Lokar with the adapter to run a different knob, it sucks. I have to constantly tighten the allen set screw (even with red loctite) With the stock knob it always had a high pitch rattle due to the button. My 32 will get a Gennie.

    gennie hands down , no ratel
    we use gennie in all our cars and were a dealer as well

  23. I've had a Gennie in my 32 for about ten years.
    It's the tall Swan Stick.
    No vibrations or rattling.
    The shifter works much like a column shifter as Roadstar said, very intuitive.

    If you install one, tighten the friction adjustment a touch over what the factory did.
    Just a bit, don't get crazy.
    They do wear in a bit in the first few hundred miles.
    I didn't and the upholsterer glued the retainer ring in and things will probably fall apart when and if I have to re-adjust.

    ~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~
    Fwiw - I have a 14 year old Gennie E-brake installed in the 32.
    Works fine, never a problem.
    I'm in the middle of installing a Gennie E-brake in the 31 on 32 rails roadster and I note that it operates smoother and quieter.
    I believe the teeth are finer on the newer ones.
    The new ones come with an E-brake on light sender.
    All in all, a well done product - as is the shifter.
    I hate the Lokar in my Falcon.
    It's a pain to take apart and adjust.
    well from all the searchs Ive done and from what Ive seen of stillkruzns ride and you guys... the gennies are becoming a hands down winner. I guess I now need to determine what will fit best and how tall I need to go. What size do you think would be a good fit for the truck? lol. im a 6'6" guy... so Id like something I can rest my hand on comfortably...and not knock me in the knees! I dont think I have to worry about hotroddons dilemma with the ladys...Ill probably be lucky to get her to ride in it!
    yup...emmm. nahhh..as tempting as that is...I think Ill stick with the floor shifter and black column. Which at the moment im in the lack of a column...The one that was in my truck came from a 67 mercury car. along with a few other various other parts. Im in the middle of swapping the front end out with a 75 for disc brakes and power steering...so I have to use a power steering column...I dont have to..but it would be easier...I have found one and claimed it...just have to go pick it off of the truck. I looked and looked for one with a manual trans and powersteering so I wouldnt have to deal with the shifter lever.
  28. A pic showing the Swan Shifter in the 32.
    I'm 6' tall with a 32" inseam and it's a good fit height-wise.
    Falls to hand nicely as the sporty car mags say.
    The shift knob is convenient and an easy reach.
    One from the other side.
    Andjust for the heck of it, the first shifter . . . which Sweetie didn't like and wanted a Gennie so she could drive the car.
    [IMG]
    I swapped about ten years ago and she's driven the car twice.
    Wow...very nice...if the interior has any reflection of the exterior....then you have a sweet ride. Thanks for the info and pics...I really do like that look. Im sure that the b&m and hurst v-matic shifters are very functional...but to me they just aren't pretty to look at....and it doesn't look like it would come from the factory that way at all. I've seen alot of these in the past years...and contemplated putting one in..just because I hear they are so easy to install. although I have been told some people don't like the cable operated shifter?? speaking of install...what all is involved in installing one of these...do you have to lower the trans to install? Obviously have to cut a hole in the floor board. now one guy that I saw his chevy done...he had the tunnel out and installed his shifter..then cut the hole for the shifter...and put some sorta fastening system on the tunnel so he could remove it if needed and had seals and all. I really have no idea! The only shifters Ive installed in my lifetime of 27 years was a replacement on a s10 with a 5 speed. Hole was already there!
  30. Gennie has some good instructions so you shouldn't have a problem there.
    I made a wood ring out of Birch veneer plywood (used because it doesn't have voids) so the upholsterer would have something to screw the boot trim ring to.
    It could have gone to the floor, but it needed to come up a bit.
    [IMG]
    Probably gonna have to do something similar to the Gennie E-brake I'm putting in the 31 on 32 rails roadster.
    It's raised up on 3/4" bushings so I can get a straight shot across some crossmembers etc.
    I'll post some info and photos on that when I'm done.
    Here's the 32 a couple years after it was up and running.
