A guy at work put this flyer on my desk today for an auction in Delta, Co on August 15th through the 17th. 900+ cars!! Looks like some pretty cool stuff there. Thought maybe someone might be interested. Here's the info... http://www.vanderbrinkauctions.com/auctions_details.php?detail=26&allimages=NO Tons more pictures here!!! http://www.vanderbrinkauctions.com/auctions_pictures.php?detail=26 WOW!!!! Looks like the majority of this stuff is HAMB friendly! Would love to know if anyone actually goes to this and buys something. Take pictures!! Always wondered what it would be like to go to something like this... If this has already been posted somewhere, please erase it. Didn't see it posted. Cheers!
Its close to me, but I'll be on my way to Bonneville. Good thing too, cause I know I'd come home with something if I went.
Bad thing is that the crushers will likely get a good portion of that. Looks like the vast majority are worth well more than scrap value but selling that many cars at once it's hard to find enough buyers that can haul it all off to save it. Too bad they don't have the auctions with only a portion at a time. I'd love to have this.
I'm going to it on the way to Bonneville, it's the Friday and Saturday before Speedweek starts and is only 6 hours away from Wendover. Hopefully have 2 cars on the trailer for the way home.
I live about 10 miles from this guys place. Ive known about this collection for years and am very shocked to see it go up on the choppin block. A extremely impressive collection! I just hope that this thing doesnt turn into a bidding extravaganza with big money sqeezing out the local guys and an army of loaded trailers heading back to California on the 17th... Im only looking to pick up one car but who knows how much these cars are going to fetch come auction day. Im thinking incomplete cars will bring $400-500 and cars with front clips and drivetrains will go for $700-800. Then again we are kinda out here in the boonies and there just arent that many people looking to buy project cars. Dont know about out-of-staters though..... what do you guys think the average price will be here???
you got any extra room there to store a car for a while? i plan on going, but don't have my truck running to bring the trailer, could use a place to stash a car for a while. i think there will be some higher $$ cars and some cheap crusher fodder. i see a lot of 4 door cars relieved of their front clips and drivetrain and crushed. i think anybody with a few bucks to spend and within a days drive is a fool if they miss this auction, with this many projects hitting the market at once, in that area, there are likely deals to be had.
Has anyone decided to go to this auction? I have seen much support around here from people who have heard about it. The owner of the body Shop I use is going down just get panels for cars on his schedule. A couple guys are riding down on their Bikes more or less to look for deals. If they buy anything it will rot just like the rest of their cars which crushed a month ago.
I really hope some people go to this and get some good projects going. If someone goes from here, please take a camera and cover this event. I've always wondered how a big collection auction would go down. Hopefully the scrap guys stay far enough away to allow some of these cars to be saved and put back on the road.
You and me both. I'm also wondering how much stuff will get bought just for scrap, hope the good stuff finds a good home.
i stayed home. my truck is apart right now, so it would mean two trips if i bought anything, figured my time would be better spent on current projects. however i'm now kicking myself, looking at what sold today, it looks like it may have been worth the trip anyway. half of fridays cars sold appear to have sold for less than the stated opening bid. looks like they dropped the opening bid from 360 down to 200.
I went to the event and it was way cool! I was there mainly to see it and to photograph it and maybe buy something if I saw the perfect starter car. If interested, you can view my photos at http://www.pbase.com/dlgphoto/opc.
Very nice shots Dan! I went on Friday, and there was definitely some incredible iron out there. Lot's of trim pieces, hoods, etc. as well, but nothing I needed for my '49 GMC 100. I was considering the Lincoln Capri or the GMC Panel, but neither were in quite good enough shape for my time and budget.
THANK you for posting the pictures! Excellent! I would love to hear more from anyone that went. Did anyone buy anything??
I went with a bud on Sat from 0945 to the end at 5pm. Lots of cool cars. Nothing that really made me want to ship a car back to chicago at the moment with two projects currently going on. Desert valley auto parts bought a ton of them (min. 75 cars)- not a fan of their group however (saw them break a couple of items on the cars trying to get in or carelessness); the scrapper got a ton of them! If someone wanted to buy the cars for stainless trim only for resale you would have made out. I missed the 52? desoto wagon - went for 2300. the 57 fiesta wagon went for 2100 (the rear driver side door sill was rusted out!) the buick special wagon went for 5000. After that, I was jus there for fun. A couple of other dealers bought from 10 -20 cars each. Saw somw socal folks there. My buddy bid on the 68? impala 4 door with running 396 - ended up going for about 2500. lots of cars less than 1000. most cars went from 1000-2000. There were some good buys there - just not for me. Worst part was finding out after the auction that a guy was going back to IL unloaded and could've taken two cars for me just for the cost of gas - agghhh! (if I knew that, I would've bought two). Feel good story: the 55 pontiac sedan yellow/black. we saw an old lady sittin in the car - great shape inside and out. We asked her if the car was fast (jokingly). She said that her husband had a car just like this and he had it up to 120 and she had it up to 110 at one time. So guess what - she bid on that car, never lowereing her bid card all the way and won the car at 3000 ( the guy bidding against her that bought about 15-20 cars didn't have the heart to go higher).
Yea i was there all three days. I picked up a 56 chevy more door with a 235 straight six and 3-speed. All numbers matching. I stole it for $800! I loaded it up and drove the 10 miles back home, threw a battery in it, drained the tank and flushed the line and fired her up! The trans shifts smooth and clutch feels solid. The brakes need attention tho. All in all it was an awesome auction. Pretty much anything for everybody. And prices were reasonable. Anything that even had a bit of style got bidded up pretty well.
That was my neighbor's car in 1977 in Delta. I knew that car fairly well. He would never open the hood for anyone, though!
The results should show up on VanDerBrinks website at the link below http://www.vanderbrinkauctions.com/auction_results.php
Good thing I didn't see that earlier, My dream car when I was in my early teens was in that bunch plus Several early 50's Cad hardtops to pick from.
