THANKS for all the info and suggestions. I am (going to) use the tool to notch the subframe on my A; if I were cutting frame material I agree a chop saw would be the better tool.
I can reverse the outer nut on the grinder, but the inner nut has a 1/8 shoulder, and the inner nut cannot be reversed (the other side engages the spindle).
So, thanks to the comments received, I will keep the thin cutting discs, and look for an appropriate washer (or kingpin shim).
    Thanks guys !!

  3. I have used a washer as well, but I now simply use one of my old cutting discs. Once a disc has been used it is the size of a washer, has the correct inner hole size, and I always have one available.:)

I would highly recommend using your hacksaw. There's a whole other level of satisfaction in finishing something caveman style.

Good luck with your power tools though, sorry, not much help here.

All good posts -- I even put two together as LOWFAT48 suggested, but took a look at the combo and decided... Nawwww....

And GOTHBOY's sawzall suggestion is good, but I want to make an inside cut and it's hard to start a sawzall blade there...

SO I WENT TO my local Ace hardware store to look for a large washer, found one with a 3/4 ID, looked sorta clunky, then I noticed they had what I seem to recall they referred to as machine bushings... they look like precision washers... I bought two, I think they were .040 and .060 thick... great additions to the angle grinder box and the thick one worked fine as a shim with my thin cutting disc.

YUP it's a cutting disc, as CHOPPEDNSLAMMED said, I use another Grinding disc for grinding!!

SO I trimmed my A subframe today and it sits on the frame nicely... Next job, hack up the stock gas tank - uh, dashboard.... as per JUST GARY (but retaining the original instrument panel...

    Onward and upward....
