I have a 1934 Ford Pick up that I want to run a Ford Banjo with a quick change. I picked up a rear end last weekend from a 46 Ford that was complete with brakes on the cheap and in really good shape. I know I have to use a model A cross member and spring to use the quick change. I contacted Posies and they said their springs would not fit this rear end. While looking at this site I saw some of you using a 46 rear with a Model A spring. What spring do I need to use and do I have to modify the axle bells for this?

Also I'm going to run a mildly built Flathead motor (4" crank, duel carb intake). Can I run the rear with the stock axles? Is it necessary to convert the axles to 28 spline modern axles or just good insurance?

    Thanks for the help.

  2. Posie's model A spring is narrowed and uses spring hangers i believe 46" on center . the spring hangers on your rear end are 48" on center. that works fine with a stock model a ford spring

i thought at one time Posie's made a stock width spring?

Here is what Posies e-mail says:

"The 46 Ford rear axle hangers are in between the two different Model A rear springs that we offer. The hanger dimensions would either be 46” – 46 ½” or 48” – 48 ½” on centers. The 46 Ford rear axle has 47 ½” perch centers. You would have to change the hangers to get one of the Model A springs to work. If you have any other questions, please let us know."

I measured the axle hangers on mine and got 47" I thought I saw a post on here said you could use the narrow spring and just "stretch" it a bit and it would work. Now I can't find the post.
