Need some help from the Coker guys on here

Discussion in 'The Hokey Ass Message Board' started by Tri-Deuce-Dicky, Aug 17, 2008.

  1. On my way to Pleasanton today from Washington I had some tire issues. With 100 miles on some new 16" Coker wide white radials, I blew an innertube on a rear tire. O.K. got pulled off before I ruined the tire and called good ole Les Schwab for some service. They came out fixed the tire and I got another 40 mile dow the freeway and blew the same tube. So, another Les Schwab comes out and they find that there is a piece of wood in the tire. Probably caused the first and second blow out. This time the tire got ruined and i got an ugly used blackwall tire that I am running on.

NON OF THIS WAS COKERS FAULT. I just need to have them bring me a tire and tube to Pleasanton. The shop that mounted these up for me is at fault. Also, I am looking for a shop in the Pleasanton area that can balance tires on the car. Or, just a good tire shop to re-balance my front tires.

    Thank you in advance.

Tubes in a radial tire??? I thought you weren't supposed to do that due to the extra tire flex radials have.

When radials first came out, they were all tube type, right into the early 70s at least.

There are radial rated tubes that must be used.

He did not say what type of wheel. If it's like a 40 ford wheel or similar old wheels, there are no bead locks pressed into the hoop, so a tubeless tire will not seal.

    Sorry you had trouble 3duece...

Radial tubes in radial tires will run just fine and not create too much heat. Hope you get er fixed and back up on the road wearin em out! Have a great time in Pleasanton! Say hello to my good friend Good Guy Gary Meador! I saw him and Marilyn in their cool 61 Lincoln cruiser in Monterey this pas week!

    Best to ya!

Still hasn't answered WHY a modern radial tire requires a tube. I did a story in Rod & Custom on shaving and balancing bias plys and you were VERY helpful Corky. For the few like Rich who REALLY drive 'em- the answers are VERY helpful. He already wore out a set of Excellsiors- and the car hasn't even been on the road for 3 months!

I bought some new tires from Coker in july , very big $$$$ Michelins for the front of my 32 5w.Replacing some that were 27 years old but still 80% , no cracks , dry rot etc. Anyway, the tires arrived and after mounting one could not be balanced , it was egg shape. They didn't have another pair , I didn't want only a single so they said send them back for a credit .They sent Fed-Ex lables and paid to have them returned. I got my credit card bill today and yes they gave me credit for the pair of tires but not the shipping I paid to get tires . Wonder why I had to pay $60 shipping for items that were no good. If you do business with this vendor remember what happened to me.........Z.D.
