Customs Max King Merc 50's Kustom

Discussion in 'The Hokey Ass Message Board' started by jakespeed63, Aug 20, 2008.

  1. Hey Fella's, Rikster suggested I start a thread about this car, but Anthony(00mack) thinks there might already be some info out there. So feel free to shut it down, if info is redundant. Seemed too cool not to share.

Found the car on The Hot Rod Revival website:http://www.hotrodrevival.com/ShowArticle.php?articleid=296

Anthony stated "Oh sure....Its an old jersey kustom in untouched condition now owned by Mark Confourth.Read more about it at hotrodrevival.com . The car was done in 50 or so by Meeker Auto body and updated by Dick Korkes who was a well known Jersey builder that went west to the Barris shop later on.If yoyu look up Korky or the name Confourth on the Hamb,Im sure youll find it"

Hey Kustom, are you familiar with an old timer (may be deceased by now) from the Paulsboro/Gibbstown area by the name of Egon Necalis?
He was always doing some wild and funky stuff with cars.

Now there's a blast from my past, I grew up in South Jersey and back in the 70's & 80 Egon was the man! Does anybody have pictures of the severely chopped and slammed `39-40 LaSalle he built in the early 80's? Definitley an `80's style streetrod but an 80's style streetroded bright orange (w/ graphics) 38" tall Lasalle sedan! He was an old guy then and I'm sure built some wild stuff in the day... He also had a brother named Ernie that also did paint & body but know where near the quality/originality that Egon had... Haven't probably heard his name in 25 or 30 years is he still going at it?

I have always liked that car... Perhaps its not as we call it perfect. But its just so different than anything else out there. It for sure is something your will notice when you see it... and for me it is noticed in a good way.

Here are two photos of it how it used to look in the late 40's or early 50's... I have to say I do like it better this way than when it was redone in the 60's.

    From the Barry Mazza Collection...

Different grille and the early version would be perfect!

Tru!... a typical case of "why change something that is perfect in the first place"

There you guys go again....trying to change history!
Ya might not like it, but it is a REAL, TRUE, TRADITIONAL kustom car. No changes needed.

Hats off to Mark Confourth for having the brains to know that the car should have never been restored.People on here have to relize that this car hasnt been touched in 40 years.Oh and I think one of the guys from the injectors on here is a relative of Confourth.

I wouldn't change it, but totally love it except for the grille (color, tires and bumpers rule on the early version). That rear treatment and windshield are AMAZING!!! Great early kustom.

most of the responses to this thread proves that "Customizing" has gotten so watered down lately...laying frame in a metalflaked roof car DOES NOT constitute a custom car, thats more lowrider than anything else...THIS THING IS A KUSTOM, LIKE IT OR NOT!!

Jeez, doesn't anyone love kustom cars anymore??? And the car rules!!

Last time I saw that car was at wayne college in n.j.
    always wondered where it went!
Egon passed many years ago. he built a 50 merc before he started on a 39 buick conv.
Never finished the car wondered what happened to it !

    grindspark asked about egon.
    Just replied to a question.
I did mention the 40 though weren't you at wayne college when that car was sitting on the second tier of the parking lot.
I can still remember that 40 and would like to see it in person again.
