Hi. I am looking at some wire wheels for my 37 Ford Tudor. I have never driven on wires before. Does, or has anyone run these wheels before?? I am looking at some Cragar/ Weld Star Wheels.. Can I have some opinions on these please, and what a set of 4 might be worth USED?? Thanks.. Al

  3. Id rather run wires than about anything.I ran them on everything I had for about 25 years, mostly tru-spokes, made a mistake on my 39 and did torque thrust......welds are just as strong as anty steel wheel.........go for it! couple nice sets on ebay right now

I would rather step up and buy some real wire wheels. Those big fat welded-on spokes look tacky to me. I have a friend who replaced some wheel vintique gennies with those wheels. It ruined the look of his car. I didn't complain because he gave me the wheel vintiques wheels with rings and caps.

I have the ones i think your talking about and they are Weld Cl***ic Starwires which have a crosslaced pattern not the 30 spoke versions shown. Send me a pm with your e-mail adress and i'll get you some pics. I need to sell them to get my car going again.
They are in great shape and hard to comeby esp with the center caps included!!

I like the wheels, but they were pulled off ebay. Found them again I think, but they are 14's, and 15's. Would it be wrong to put the bigs, and littles on?? One guy told me to stick with 15". If I can't find a real good deal on them. Then i will go with a 15" chrome smoothie, or ralley wheel and paint the centers.. Al

true spokes look better than welded and true spoke knock offs look the best. That being said I hate wire wheels and those stupid unilug eccentric washer lug nuts. They have to be checked all the time to make sure they haven't come loose. Of course so do the knock offs. I check the lug nuts every time I fill up like every couple hundred miles. Have personally seen and repaired the aftermath of one falling off of a 64 tbird.

I did find some wheels online. They are 14x6, and 15x7. Would that be ok on a 37 Ford Tudor?? My Brother told me NOT to put 14's on the front. He said it wouldn't look right. Is this right?? Thanks.. Al

Ive still got an old McLean 56 spoke in my office. Brings back memories. I sold a many of em back in the early 90's. Is it a 56 or 72? I better count them.

If i find some wires.. is there anything that I should look for??, other than bends on the edges of the rims.. Thanks.. Al

  24. always check out the ****** area (insert joke here), and the inner seal on real wires.....welds are damn near bullet proof,,,,,,,,,make sure all the spoke are tight

Thanks. My Brother not to buy used wheels, though he wanted me to buy his Model A wheels and put them on it. The only other wheels I can think that I would like to see on it is the Chevrolet Nova style Rally wheel. I could scuff the centers, and paint it the same color as the car. Those wheels would only cost me about $63.00 per wheel.. Al

The only reason for jumpin off the wire wheels is.. I am not sure just what I would be getting. I couldn't afford to get them fixed, and I sure couldn't afford to buy new wires. I am also sure that the seller wouldn't want them back either. That is why I might have to go the other way and get the other wheels. I sure do like those wires though.. Al

I bought my set from a 60ish guy who ran them in his 1940 ford until they discontinued his tire size. They are in perfect shape (he even made a custom lug nut bracket to hold the caps on with a screw), and I like them so much better than the steel stockers with wide whites that everyone was telling me to run.
