These photos were taken today by Adam Weeks, from Ultra Carbon Fiber in Eagle Mountain, Utah.

He said, "It looks like the front set of bands power the left wheel and the rear set power the other wheel. Each band set has a gear on one side of the cart which runs the big gear on the outside."

Dave (@Roadsters.com) ... Thanks for posting these photos ... and kudos to Adam ... they're the best shots of the car I've seen ... good detail of the "power plant"

There actually was a guy riding a tricycle similar to this around the starting line all day on Monday...although he was somewhat older, and did not have a helmet.

Lets just say that some of you guys don't understand. Ron Main does 350mph plus with a four cylinder in his streamliner. The rubber band car is just for fun... I think that alone is deserving af a little respect.......Lucky

Humor has always been a part of the human race.
Now where can we get some bigger rubber bands.

Rubber band car, I love it. This car would be great to bring to my kid's school science fair night! Wind it up and run it across the playground.

If one of those bands snaps at speed, will it grenade the rest of the bands? Could make for a hell of a mess to untangle!

Humor isn't a stretch of the imagination when it comes to a rubber band land speed racer.I respect them for what their doing and laugh at the same time.Have they got into the 35mph club?

  21. Just checked the SCTA-BNI web site and as of Friday there were no posted runs for #876. Guess they were too busy with real race cars to play games with it.

    Bummer if it didn't run.

I bet the act of going down the salt without an engine's soundtrack is a surreal experience.

I spent several minutes in the pits looking the car over. Laugh if you want but the car looked great. The OMEGA CL*** is for Bonneville cars that are non-thermodynamic. You see all types of cool ideas during speedweek. Its hard to believe you guys would make fun of this car. There was a crew of guys from Europe with a sidecar motorcycle that went 55mph. The bike would have fit in the overhead storage on an airplane. If you think you can do better, build it and go for the record.

The rubber ban car looks good to me and I am curious as to how fast it can go too.

If you want ultimate speed and that is your only true measure of success, it's a no brainer to just get the biggest rocket(s) you can, strap a couple of wheels to it and hope it sticks enough to the ground that you don't kill yourself. The biggest engineering challenge to that is how to pay for it.

  27. Here's one to ponder... If the thing is direct drive, and they just let it go and rewind back and forth until the rubberbands have released ALL the energy, where does the car end up on the course?

Looks like a hell of a lot of fun, and I hope they put it in the record books.

Thats what I'm talking about, thats funny. You guys that can't find your sence of humor must have personalities as dry as the salt.

Dollar per mile an hour I'll bet the rubber band car was no low buck effort.
