Just bought a 20 ton press from Harbor Freight yesterday. $200 on sale. I've needed (wanted) one for years. Already straightened the rear bumper on my 48 Ford moordoor and pressed out two bolts on an old axle. The first bolt took all 20 tons + heat. The second one just slid out easily. The second one was caked with more grease and had less rust. Yes I know I'm going to hell and the whole thing is going to blow up in my face because I bought cheap Chinese tools. And I'm solely responsible for our rotten economy, And I'm putting thousands of good Americans out of work, but I've always played the cards dealt me and right now they are $4.50 Gas and cheap Chinese tools. I've got one, one of those tools you need every once in a while, doesn't take up much room and handy as hell.
Just a FYI, there is a thread on pirate about that same press. Several guys have split the stock plates when pressing. One guy caught a piece in the face. Most guys are recommending with that HF press to cut your own plates out of 1".
So far so good. Like I said I used all the 20 tons on the one bolt. I really laid into it before applying the heat. Nothing broken yet. But thanks I'll wear my safety gl***es. Gary
