Hello all. I have a tough one here.... I have a dear friend who is building a 56 nomad and really wants to alter the tailgate hinges. He would like to shave them completely and I promised him that I could find some info on how guys have done it in the past. Well....I am empty handed! I have heard of folks using 58 chev wagon hinges, but I am not coming up with much.... If anyone has descriptions, links, or pictures I would be indebted to you!

the my old project nomad which i sold, i used a set of universal hinges from a place called Rocky Hinge, believe they are in CO not sure tho, you might want to google it. as far as installing, its basically a hit or miss. you just got to go for it. here are pictures...

  4. If I remember correctly, wagon/Nomad hinges are pretty hard to find in good shape...

you might want to let your buddy know.

Thanks for the pictures! Just having a visual of how someone else tackled the problem really helps! My friend does have the original hinges, and was thinking about using them....he just thinks that shavin them really cleans up the rear gate area. I would have to agree even though I am the kind of guy who would leave orig hinges on my old fords!
If there are additional pictures, or if anyone knows of other sources for hinges that might work please let me know! There was recently a nice black 56 nomad in an issue of the Rodder's Journal.....I can't remember which issue it was now, but that car had hidden hinges. I can't find any build pics of that car, but it has hidden hinges too! You would sure think someone documented that build, but I haven't had any luck finding anything

  6. Sorry- I meant that he could make some cash for the build by selling the hinges!

No lie! You are probably right! I know any tailgate pieces are getting hard to come by! He was looking for a better rear gate for awhile and struggled! finally decided to piece his back together rather than pay the piper for one on ebay!!
